And that’s precisely why they didn’t say anything more until it was too late. If the community wants more communication with the developer, then be worth communicating with. Not at.That encourages them to hide from their feedback and the repercussions of their actions. If they know something is going to anger their players, they need to be able to take their knocks for it. Especially if it's because they ignored previous feedback. And if it's early enough, maybe that feedback could result in some good changes.
I don't think players would want to sit through Live Letters that are running 4-6 hours because everything has to be said twice with pauses to get clarification on meaning. If you go back through some of the old VODs of Live Letters and panels that had live translation, they took an awful long time for not much to be said.
What would be helpful is for the translated Live Letter digests to be posted within 24 hours of a Live Letter, and for those translations to be much closer to what is being said during the Live Letter instead of vague summaries.

If SE thinks we suck, which we might... lol, and just is like "NO I HATE TALKING TO THEM!".. then it's well within their ability to just choose not to talk to us. I suppose, not that anyone has to like or encourage that.Perhaps things could have unfolded differently, perhaps they wouldn’t have.
I can’t help but suspect we get the information in the format and volume we do because Square has seen how the community reacts to just about everything over the last decade.
I’d suspect there was a consideration to emphasize the storyline requirement more than they already had.
If I were in their shoes, I would have avoided saying anything more than I already had. Saying more would have only led to arguments and demands for things to change, but the decision had already been made and announced. In a very real way, additional “clarification” would not really land us in a place different than we are already.
All of that aside, there’s no more room for interpretation or misinterpretation. If you want the relic, no matter what your plans were, you know what you need to do now.
Do it or don’t. You might manage to get a “sry well do better nekst tiem lol!” from Square, but don’t expect any sort of recognition beyond lip service for this.
But we do have active company examples, of video games, that have had a fairly successful and perhaps improved fan following, due to their communication abilities.
I wouldn't say SE is the worst, because I've seen companies go for basically nothing if not literally. But I definitely wouldn't say they're the best at it either, in their own field even (MMO, RPG).
I would 'like' for them to improve their communication, and I can guarantee that it wont always be in their favor, but I would hope they could get to a state where it's more often and more consistently understood as intended. It'll never be perfect but I do think it could be better.

Or just start pre-recording them and add subtitles in supported languages then post for everyone.I don't think players would want to sit through Live Letters that are running 4-6 hours because everything has to be said twice with pauses to get clarification on meaning. There’s plenty of examples of too much communication that ends in the icarus resolution. There’s a balance to maintain, and unpopular decisions are best handled talking at a community rather than with.If SE thinks we suck, which we might... lol, and just is like "NO I HATE TALKING TO THEM!".. then it's well within their ability to just choose not to talk to us. I suppose, not that anyone has to like or encourage that.

Of course! But we are no where near Icarus heights in terms of communication. Imo. lol

I'll just be over here getting my card ready.....
(Shamelessly stolen from Reddit.)

I'll take it!
Little sad Ronso's piece isn't in the middle but this is content focused rather than response focused so.. I'll take it!
I will see you people tomorrow lol. Also it's sweet of you to give proper credit.. I just wanted to say I read that and then smiled (not sarcasm).

Don't North American players outnumber Japanese players?
Neglecting half or more of the player base doesn't make sense to me. The previous comment about it being important for useful community feedback -- when it would be most useful! -- is important.

Is there a place to see the slides? I can wait on the commentary translation but I would like to read the on-slide notes.
