Tank anxiety is thinking that you are responsible for mobs not dying in time, you not getting healed in time, other people dying to aoes or other kinds of incompetence. But you're not responsible for those things. Adopting a mindset that even though you lead the way you're not really in control of how the pull goes, and just focusing on your own play, can reduce anxiety and allow you to speed things up. It did for me.
Oh, that was moreso a comment on how a lot of others in DNGNs in my experience have complained abt tanks.

My suggestion is to stop caring and just tank. People are quick to latch onto anyone else being the problem.

Don't worry about outing yourself as a new tank, either; if people don't like something, let them tell you. Stay undercover as long as you can, run dungeons repeatedly, and eventually you'll be able to make it all the way through without someone spotting you as new.

Don't underestimate your party's ambivalence. Most of them just want to get in and get out; use that to your advantage and strive to be the most invisible, unseen tank you can possibly be while learning the content. Not great, not bad. Just there.

Do your homework, though; read tooltips, a guide or two. Don't get too deep into guides until your tank is caught up to your other roles.

And you misunderstand the whole anxiety issue. It's easy to say "stop caring and just do your job / stop worrying". The deal for many - actual - anxious people is: They are likely quite aware of all that. They are aware that in retrospec all nervousness and panic was exaggerated. Depending on which degree the "anxiety" is, you just can't control it. You can self-suggest yourself it's fine, but it may or may not be enough. For "outsiders"/bystanders, the whole deal with anxiety seems quite absurd (and sometimes so it feels for the persons affected ironically), yet if it were for them so easy to dismiss, they would easily be able to "cure" themselves.

But I agree, normally all nervousness lessens or can disappear over time. Mistakes happen, especially if you don't run (or want to) run each dungeon ad nauseum, and nobody will likely care in the long run.

THIS! When I tanked I liked tanking. It was fun! But I was hyper aware of every little thing I did that could be perceived by others as wrong. If I went into the wrong room in Haukke manor, I thought about that for at least 10 minutes before I was too absorbed into a fight to think about it, and then afterwards I thought about it again. If I died to a tankbuster that was easy to dodge I felt like everyone was judging me, yelling at their screens. After tanking I'm sweaty palmed, shaky, heartbeat is rocketing, etc etc. But i enjoy the gameplay mechanics and lore behind tanks, so I deal. I wish i could pop a med and make it all better, or tell myself "theyre not actually thinking that about you, calm down" but alas, not that easy.

I'm aware, I'm just dismissive. If tankxiety is something you can't "just get over" then don't tank. Find a job that doesn't make you anxious, or -- if no job doesn't -- then trusts and beastmen are excellent alternatives. I want players to experience the game in the way that makes them most comfortable, and "anxious" is not comfortable.

The only thing that is your party's concern is whether you push buttons when you should. Your personal state is not their concern until it's bothersome enough to consider replacement.
