* Cinematic trailer for the next expansion? (Since they can't have the fan fest due to current events they'll probably show it there. Who knows? Maybe it'll just be a name drop.)
* A hint towards one of the new classes?

they will of course annouce male viera and female hrothgar.
Despite all the hype about xpac, job reveal, etc... One thing that I'm curious about is if they are going to announce any kind of change in the game's structure... Which is something I really could read between the lines through previous statements.
I'm no programmer, and I really don't know what would take to make changes to the game's codes, but I assume that the so meme'd "spaghetti code" having some sort of upgrade, would affect positively many aspects of the game, from simple things like the cumbersome menus (e.g. having to close a menu to perform another action) to even new ways of combat design, allowing the game to lean off its very scripted nature a little bit, which would also affect the way healers are designed.
It's not just about the term, it's what you put around it.Announcement Showcase is exactly what Square Enix is calling it though...??

Not really clickbait to be frank.
Just "Announcement Showcase!" sounds like the thread may contain new announcements.
If you're questioning or speculating it is much better to put a question mark at the end of your title than an exclamation mark.
This is a large-scale peeve of mine. People will post a thread like "Blue mage in deep dungeons!" (or anything else exciting with an exclamation mark) and you think there's been a new announcement that it's coning, but no, the poster is just really eager to tell you about how it should be a thing. Put a question mark and it's clearly speculative.
Difficult to call honestly. There's no doubt that some of it would be under the hood changes they usually don't announce (as we seen with the animators)Despite all the hype about xpac, job reveal, etc... There's a lot of things the devs said they COULD do...but don't want to for one reason or another because its difficult or apparently impossible. they don't have a very good track record of being honest here and they also sometimes pick things up then drop them later quietly.
Magic damage vs physical damage for example. Asked about since the launch of the game. Claimed to be difficult to implement and they were looking at it. Then suddenly recent live letter states its impossible. Yet they could fit in direct hit vs critical hit with no issues whatsoever and there's 3rd party tools that read this single flag and display it should the pc user desire it.
At the very least there's four things we can guess at with the new expansion
1. Further cuts to the 2.0-2.5 msq. Yoshi mentioned that this needs to be trimmed but they only done ARR so far
2. Rings adjustment. Yoshi-p has mentioned off hand something interesting about them he's looking forward to
3. Little to no job discussion. Given the devs are continuously hiding more and more from us on jobs, this seems a given
4. Adjustments etc to servers or plans to. world market board or server capacity things. Something they done a lot of work on is breaking down the barriers between the servers.
Hopes:seems we will be getting an annoucement showcase early feb.
what's everyone think will be announced?
any chances it will have expansion/job details since by now we should have had at least 1 fan fest and are behind on details only 1 patch left for the expansion and we have had no details on 6.0 at all.
anything anyone specifically wants to hear about?
-New Healer
-SMN Derplander trailer
-Male viera (possibly in the trailer in some form) and female hrotgar
-We get beast master as a limited job (maybe in 5.5?)
-Housing upgrades (Im betting Ishgard housing)
-Female viera get more hairstyles and male hrotgar get face changing at asthethician
-Both genders of both new races get (at least the artifact gear) hats
Fears:
-Not even the slightest mention of viera and hrotgar (missing genders or updates)
-Zenos.
-No new healer but new DPS job
-Healers get dumbed down even more
-Did I mention Zenos?
Well that about covers a lot of my hopes and fears as well. Seriously if there is no new healer And healer gets dumbed down even more then I will seriously be annoyed. It has been 6 years now since we got a new healer, at the very least maybe AST can go back to how it played in SB, as well. I at the very least hope Viera receive some cosmetic updates such as more hairstyles and more hat pieces, both old and new. All in all I am expecting the expansion teaser with a cinematic trailer, they may reveal more then usual and who knows 5.5 might release all of the MQS in one instead of part 1 and part 2 in a later patch so they can do a full cinematic reveal a couple of weeks after it launches. I am expecting we might possibly see the hub city, hopefully Sharlayan, and maybe a confirmation the exploration zones will be in Islabard because if this is the season 1 finale I feel it has to mark both those boxes to feel like it. Sadly the way Zenos broke his weapon and is looking for a new ones seems to imply that they were setting it up for him to be in the cinematic trailer wielding it, sigh.Hopes:

I don't because I've been on the internet long enough to be familiar with people failing to understand proper grammatical formatting, punctuation and have accepted it as it is. (and thrown it aside in some cases myself for the sake of brevity) As should anyone whose been around since the early 2000s—you should be used to this.
Yeah... no. Adding a question mark behind "announcement showcase" would make even less sense as it would imply they are confused about it, rather than the speculative excitement they're wanting to show— "Announcement Showcase?" That doesn't imply speculative discussion, and only gives a sense that they are confused about what it is or might be, which defeats the point entirely. If you're questioning or speculating it is much better to put a question mark at the end of your title than an exclamation mark.
As such, both the thread title and your suggestion are poorly formed titles which do not give any context into what the thread might be about.
Ideally, if people here were to put more thought into their titles, you'd see "Announcement showcase: thoughts and predictions?" rather than these vague questioning or emphatic excuses for subjects...but most people aren't vested enough to care.
In terms of my hopes? I'd agree, and I also agree with your comments on how this all pivots on whether they intend for XIV to be there for the long haul, or take a backseat to a newer MMO. But I'm going in with very muted expectations... even as to the trailer.I don't mean this as literal, although it could be, but more metaphorically if FFXIV is going to be their long term "no intention to make another mmo" mmo then I do hope they begin to incorporate some cataclysm like thought processes. Which is again to hit upon more that metaphorical representation as WoW has clearly shown their willingness to rebuild systems both technical and gameplay based while also updating their graphics (both future and past, and to point out technically WoW has done this then and continues to do this - it's just more of a pinnacle example and spiritual archon of the imagery). It might be fair to paint certain gameplay changes positively or negatively based on your bias, that part is more in the air and personal interpretation of what's fun, but say for example the team looked at glamour system and said "wow that is going to be extremely difficult" and so they dedicated an entire team to solving just that problem (and WoW's glamour log is substantially better than FFXIV's, and pretty good in general, although you might point out other mmos that do have better ones).
It could be a cheeky joke but Yoshida has made hints at future systems before that came to fruition very similarly to as said in the past, and so when he jokes about a cataclysm like event, at least I personally believe, that it also might be a cheeky hint rather than just a joke - as he has on /multiple/ occasions talked about dropping another dalamud.
If the game is going to begin it's cycle out like FFXI, which happens to be approaching the age that FFXIV took FFXI's place (~10 years), then eh whatever cataclysm I guess isn't really that important, but if they're like "FFXIV, FFXIV 6 more years, FFXIV 10 more years, FFXIV forever" then I do hope they start showing signs of igniting the core forges more often rather than just the peripheral forges that build on top of whatever is existing. Which again doesn't mean a literal cataclysm "just like WoW, just like FFXIV 1.0" has to happen, but those hyper engines charging rather than the regular thrusters. Assuming they're going to keep FFXIV as their flagship mmo for a significantly longer period of time at least, maybe in / around the end of 6.0 after delivering some stellar sort of conclusion to the MSQ of FFXIV they introduce the next mmo (and then after FFXIV would likely continue to get expansions but each one would also likely be self contained experiences, just like FFXI wasn't immediately abandoned after FFXIV 1.0 or even FFXIV 2.0).
What I'd like to see is for them to expand and improve upon character customisation, primarily.
Bonus points would be Zenos dying off rather quickly in the expansion; a darkness-based caster, be it Time Mage, Necromancer, whatever; good new abilities and playstyle twists for existing jobs (esp BLM/SMN, which I main); more variety in harder content (e.g. dungeon challenge modes); and finally seeing derplander in some caster job in the trailer. But most of those relate to things I don't expect them to touch on until the later fanfests.
