A tale of two experts. The week is coming to an end and i havent capped tomes yet. So last night i run an expert(my first or maybe second of the week tops), and load into Relict. I think we had PAL/WHM, but im not honestly sure. The DPS pair was me on BLM and another BLM with slightly better gear. Before we pull anything, someone comments on how this should be a fast run. Midway through the earth section, the other BLM complains that the two of us are killing everything too fast - he cant use his full toolkit and its hard to keep the rhythm because things dont live long enough. Im noticing the same thing, but im not able to keep up well enough to also type. Blast through the first section, tank goes afk for 3 mins at the start of the second section before we fly through it, third section is more of the same. Even with the afk we finish up in around 14 mins. Healer and tank say nice things and seem impressed, and the other BLM just fistbumps me. Great feeling.
Fast forward to tonight. Im 130ish tomes from cap, so one more expert and some other assorted whatever will get me to the finish line. Load into Gauntlet and see a GNB/WHM/DRG to go with my BLM. Alright, seems easy enough. Tank does a stutter step at the beginning, and the DRG ends up out in front of him and pulls the first pack. Face aggro was quickly transfered to the healer, but everyone just ran to the normal spot and the tank gathered everything back up. A little messy. Ok. Next pull, and the same basic thing happens. Tank isnt complaining, and we arent having real issues - just sloppy openings. This happens again on the first boss, and actually throws off my rotation because the DRG for some reason doesnt know where/how to tank the thief. When the tank gathers the aggro he just left the boss where the DRG had taken it(to keep movement to a minimum? to not mess with DRG positionals? because he was about to start his dashing around moves and reposition himself anyway? no one was talking, so i cant read motivation into this). At some point in this, i drop Eno(i said it threw me off) which i always hate to do - its embarrassing if nothing else. After getting my rotation going again, i notice that the DRG never really came all that close to me aggro wise even when i wasnt casting my good spells(this would prove true for the entire dungeon although i was able to adjust my rotation a touch so as not to let him cause me to drop again). I have also noticed by this point that he doesnt seem to have an eye macro set up and no one is getting the second half of that buff. Fast forward to the end of the dungeon. Every trash pull has been jank, every boss has started out as a mess, and even though i had minimal hiccups once i adjusted to this guy i am feeling mildly frustrated about the way that dungeon went. We were finished in like 17 mins, and all i could think was how much smoother my run was the night before.

I just don't think it's worth the effort at that point. Shielding players is way different though, I'll put my whm one on players just like this. Has saved many people (and myself)... not that anyone in the party cares, at all, when I save them. I'm not really sure how SCH operates (even though I have it at 80), but I'd assume you are doing things right, I think. You can't really save them all on WHM. Once I have to start breaking out the cure 2 (if a run is going that bad), yeah nah. Some people are DETERMINED to die, like you say.

"Outside obvious jokes/sarcasm, I aim to convey my words to the future readers who may come across mine posts. Can I change -your- mind, somehow? Potentially... but that's not why I'm writing. You and I have wrote our piece(s). We don't necessarily need to change each other's mind. But we can change other's."

17 minute clear, is really good in DF. Best I get is maybe like 15, and a half (I tank most of my dungeons - to work towards my mount(s)) in DF. I'd say 17 minutes is an average duty finder clear time, where the DPS are all pretty acceptable. 20 minutes is more the norm, unfortunately.
WHM | RDM | DNC
My partner and I queued for alliance raid roulette last night only because the adventurer in need bonus was DPS and we've been healing a lot lately so it was a nice break. Thankfully we got Orbonne instead of yet another ARR raid. Everything was mostly fine up until Thunder God. Then we wiped over and over which always started with alliance B wiping first (we were in A). I was a SMN and he was a RDM, and there was another RDM, so we kept running over to try to raise them but it was like no one was healing in B. The usual crap followed, a failed vote to abandon, arguing, etc. and then someone in our alliance noticed that it didn't even seem like the SCH in B was healing ever. Somehow their WHM co-healer would always die first and they would just keep casting Broil II. Funny enough, said SCH was also the one barking orders at everyone the whole time, sometimes in all caps. It took probably around 4-5 tries to get through the fight, and B still wiped in the successful attempt. By that point we were convinced they were just trolling.
They also had some pretty nasty things to say to us whenever we pointed it out, some things I would definitely consider to be reportable, but honestly I just wanted to get through it. The fight isn't even hard anymore.
Oh, right, and we had a BRD for a while that I saw just standing there auto-attacking. After one of the wipes, they were like "we're all good guys, don't worry" or something, and I pointed out that I saw them auto-attacking for at least 10 seconds straight. Their response? "I'm waiting for cooldowns". I still don't understand.

You think at level 80 you would know better, but please do come into my experts wearing two pieces of augmented scaevan gear. Was wondering why the first two packs of trash were taking a good amount to die. It wasn't the MCH or the WAR, their gear was fine. It was the BLM, clearly doing 3000 IQ plays because when I asked them why they were wearing scaevan gear, hoping they might've made a mistake, instead they said "bis hand" "idk". I assume by "bis hand" they meant their weapon, as if that's going to save them from their absolutely trash dps.
And their dps was absolutely trash. Literal deadweight. No point giving the guy cards, the MCH and WAR benefitted more from the boost. No point keeping them alive either when they were so squishy it didn't take much to kill them.
"must've been the scaevan hands" - after dying to the necromancer. I don't know what this dude's thinking, either he's legit trolling or thought it would be okay if three other people carried him. Do that with your friends, not strangers, please. Unfortunately for him, since he had no contribution to the party, I was happy to treat him as if he wasn't there at all. This had no detriment to the rest of the party, mind you, we were able to burn the last boss down easily without the BLM.
"did i offend the healer or something"
I wouldn't say offended, but a bit annoyed that he thought he could hop into an 80 duty thinking it was ok to have two pieces of level 70 gear whilst playing an already squishy class and expect three other people to do all the hard work for him. Like damn, I wouldn't mind it so much if this wasn't an 80's duty, but the game literally gives you free gear the moment you hit 80, I wouldn't care if he was in some aritfact gear, not gear from last expansion.
Should've tried votekicking, but I'm wary of that option because I don't want to waste other people's time and by the time I was able to point it out, we'd just got past the first boss.
Reminds me of a couple of days ago doing E9S attempting to clear it. It was a E9S duty completion party where a healer kept shouting at everyone that they got him killed or were doing wrong. Meanwhile, this person, being marked as '2' for being in Group 2, keeps going LEFT during wide/anti, causing 10 wipes. It ended with the party disbandening because of all the 'infighting' as somehow no one really wanted to burn their fingers on scolding the healer for being a hypocrite. I would not be surprised if it was the same person considering we are on the same datacenter :X

I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.Originally Posted by Packetdancer
