What's up with healers not healing?

This to be honest. Why are people answering to what others said 4 years ago, in a completely different state of the game, balance, skillsets and all?
Apples and oranges.

Because even four years later we're still having the DPS argument in an expansion where healing as never been easier.

If both healers Swiftcasts were down, blame the RDM. If I'm healing and my Swift is, let's say 12 sec away and I have a co-heal and RDM in the group it's silly for me to hardcast. There's also the question of whether a window is open, even on Normal you sometimes don't get 8 sec windows for a while in-between healing and dodging mechanics. Sure, Glare-> Glare-> dodge mechanic -> Glare -> Glare -> heal raidwide might look lazy but stick a Raise anywhere in there and I'm getting either getting hit by the mechanic or the raidwide isn't being healed. Headless chicken Medica II -> Raise -> get hit by mechanic -> panic Bene myself -> Panic spam Cure III -> Medica II the raidwide -> headless chicken a bit more, would probably earn 4 comms though :l

Ehhh, it really depends. I find it all to frequent healers use their Swift for DPS and expect the RDM to pick up raises. You shouldn't be relying on a Caster raise unless it's absolutely necessary that person be up in time for the next mechanic, or if a healer goes down. Otherwise, I agree. If the healer can't stay still long enough to get a raise off then let the Caster do it. I just see far too many healers rely on them hence the whole "rez mage" meme.

Personally, if I have a RDM/SMN, I expect him to rez when my swift is off CD. He doesn't need the mana, and in case of the RDM every second cast is instant anyway.
Me doodling around for 8s is a raid wide DPS loss, compared to him losing one instant cast.

That being said: if people die more often than every 60 seconds, the problem is not the healer. Just sayin'.

As a raiding healer (Well, not this tier, but all the ones before it), I rarely have swift not on cooldown. White mage in particular has far less mobility than even black mage, and so few weave opportunities that hard clipping happens all the time. Swiftcast makes it happen a little less. But all healers have use for it.

Of course you can hold swiftcast while progging, but once prog is done, any healer that holds swiftcast isn't optimizing and is leaving DPS on the table.

I find it kind of petty to use a powerful CD like swift on a lame filler spell such as Glare but I see the point.
I usually cast regen or any other instant healing spell while moving, s/o always needs some heal anyway. If not, I refresh Dia a bit early.

Good thing that I no longer raid and don't have to worry about that kind of micromanagement.
