I think a lot of ARR voice overs may fit the bill with that description. I found the voice acting Heavensward and beyond to actually be very good for the most part. Some of the voice overs are phenomenal. Vauthry, Lyna, the exarch, Asahi and Zenos come to mind.

The kobald screeches should give hints to their voices. Had no problems with the sahagin in “the place” in shb. But when we helped a little rat screechy thing I wasn’t expecting it to sound like something out of Mary Poppins ye olde posh English.
Every time he talked I just laughed. Totally killed the mood of the super serious scene but can’t be helped.
The patriarch wasn’t bad. Again could’ve been a little more raspy in voice or made use of screeches mid speak to remind us they’re kobalds not fluid English speaking upper class aristocrats. “Oh I’m ever so glad you helped us. Delighted, Happy, Glad. Now how about we riddle off to the abode and treat our persons with a nice cup of tea. Delicious, Lovey, Nice. Off you pop scions”

The voice acting itself was perfectly fine. But the choice of voice for all of the kobolds seemed very odd. I don't think anyone needs to be fired but I would like to hear why the decided that those voices were the right ones.
I like the Japanese voices, but sometimes they shout stuff in the background that isn't translated so I feel like I'm missing out a bit if it's not in English.Yeah, that's what I was thinking of. Haha
I didn't like the voice but the Japanese ones are just awful for my ears. I don't understand it, I have to watch the lower part of the screen constantly and especially the squealing voices (usually female) are more than just a little grating. I'm glad we have options. lol
I wouldn't even have thought about it twice if this was the voice for any regular human child, but yeah, I was expecting a bit more jittery and screechy and less well-mannered Dickensian street urchin.
EDIT: But I don't think it's a big enough deal anyone needs to get fired over it obviously.![]()
He has balls of STEEL!!!!! As a comment had said under that video. xDMy favorite part about the Japanese dub is what they did to Yuyuhase.
And for any about to watch this clip, remember, this is the first time Yuyuhase speaks. Before this scene he isn't voiced yet.
(Warning: BIG Heavensward spoilers)

For all we know, dolpins, elephants, chimpanzees and parrots are sentient and intelligent too. Maybe not quite on the same level with us, but we've been able to have in-depth conversations with chimpanzees and some simple communication with parrots. Yet each of them has a native language totally different from us and each other. Parrots can mimic human voices but they sound different from humans. Heck, even humans sound different from other humans, particularly if they have a medical condition or injury affecting the vocal cords. So yes, kobolds could definitely be sentient, intelligent and have the capability of speech, yet have a voice which is raspy, croaky or screechy when they speak human languages.

They have some weird accents in this game. It really suited Feo Ul once you got used to it but in general I’d like to hear less harsh/unique voices and more standard ones for npcs.
The kobold really really was terrible and I’d rather it just didn’t have a voice than that. Same with new Cid.

I feel in general they get their really big characters right. But I guess that’s where the big money is spent.
For everyone else it’s like they revert to stock amateur voice actors who try way too hard.
Japanese all the way for me. With the Japanese VA's, it feels like a few are a miss (such as some of the high pitched female VA's) but the rest are excellent, while the majority of the English VA's are bland, weak and souless but a few are decent. It feels like the Japanese use professional voice actors and the English are on a low budget with whatever they can find, but I'm certainly not claiming that as fact.
Either way, opinions seem to vary and we (thankfully) have options for both so I have no complaints really.

I'm sure they'll get to firing the voice actors for their work on some throwaway characters whos story arc is more or less concluded. Really going full Karen with this IMO.
