There needs to be a limit on when leaving a dungeon gives a penalty.

I just got out of a 50+ minute cutters cry after 1 wipe on the second boss and 6 wipes on the final boss.
The healer and other dps died nearly every ram's voice while the tank held most of the boss' model in every ram's keeper butt-first, which is a problem for an all-melee party.

They refused to abandon, so i was finally forced to leave, and now i have a 30 minute DF penalty.

Seriously, dungeon time limits are way WAY too long. Square either needs to cleave them in half, or make it so leaving after a certain point does not yield a penalty, because I should not be punished by my party getting themselves killed by every single bit of avoidable damage.

Also yes I should have left way before but i was hoping NOT to be penalized for just trying to level ninja.

Sadly this is to prevent those that leave just because they got some dungeon/instance they didnt want to do, which i feel like is fair. I don't really see them bending the rules to this, i mean you had what 10 minutes left on the dungeon anyway? If all else fails, and they wont abandon. you could try to vote kick the problematic tank(gameplay differences) and if it passes you could then leave without the penalty. There is a couple other ways you could avoid the penalty, as well, but I dont necessarilly condone them so ill leave it at that

Just out of curiousity, OP, did you try to inform the tank of the fact that he was tanking the boss in the AoE? Or the melee that were dying to Ram's Voice?

Also I find the suggestion to cut the instance timer by half to be amusing.

If I have to tell the tank that they shouldn't have the boss 3/4 of the way inside a gigantic circle of ice that hurts when you touch it with 2 ninjas in the party, they should not be tanking.

But yes i made sure to inform everyone how the boss' attacks worked, both on color and attack name.

i didn't realize people weren't allowed to learn how to tank, they have to already know everything about it before starting

That is definitely an option for sure. As far as i know the penalty came about because people were dropping left and right, eventually it came to this very early on in the games life. Its been that way for an extremely long time, but something like you suggested, makes sense too.

You were not forced.... Regardless there are a multitude things you can do during a 30min penalty, don't be so dramatic. Go do some FATEs, Leves, Beast Tribes, go window shopping on the MB, hell play a completely different game or watch a show during the timer, it's not that long to wait seriously.

Nah, the penalty is just fine. It's meant to discourage abandoning for small or petty reasons. And if the reason you left isn't small or petty, then it's a small price to pay for keeping people from leaving stuff at the drop of a hat for dumb reasons. We've all been through bad parties, you either suck it up and deal or you eat the penalty. It's fine.
