I think a lot of the appreciation of the Scions pre-Shadowbringers relies on you talking constantly to characters inbetween quest objectives and getting all their little remarks and insights and personality quirks. The MSQ cutscenes are the driest part of their involvement. (Same for the minor Scions who are usually at the Rising Stones.)

On the specific claim that we were "Alphinaud's babysitter" maybe that applies for ARR but I think that overlooks the character development he had during Heavensward. He matures a lot and feels like a real companion, not someone we're stuck with.

    Alph's babysitter here!
On Alph: I agree and appreciate that he has grown up in the story and have enjoyed traveling with him. I guess my dissatisfaction is that, although he does indeed mature and "get better", he really had no business being in certain positions he was in to begin with, and made a lot of.. I guess.. newbie mistakes. Fine if he is the resident gopher or interning, but he was in charge of a 4th Grand Company.

@Vyreus: I guess my trouble is that I always felt like the outsider tagging along to their meetings, or their blunt instrument rather than part of their team. I guess I was their hitman for when they needed things dead? A lot of "go do the thing, then pray return for further instructions"

Well, remember, we start off as an ex-merc nobody, as all adventurers do. The Scions are practically independent nobility. Our dynamic with them at first is very much a, "Prove yourself" sort of thing, as they are trying to recruit any Echo blessed peoples for quelling the Primal threat. But not all Echo Blessed are strong. When we kill Ifrit, the dynamic starts to shift, we're beginning to be viewed as an equal, but the organization is low on manpower, and is trying to cover all of Eorzea. Most of the Scions themselves are not Echo blessed, but they do have skills, connections, and revenue.

Basically though, it's all business, all the time. No rest for the righteous and all that. But also remember that we are granted total freedom as well. Highest honors, any Grand Company of our choosing, and we get paid too (quest rewards). In simplest terms, we're the muscle, they're the brain. In more honest terms, the WoL is a professional fighter, a warrior, and the Scions recruit/hire them. We are basically directionless without them, so the Scions provide us that too. After the events at Praetorium, we really are fully fledged friends.

I will say though, you're not wrong to feel the way you do about being othered, it comes into play more in Stormblood, but as much as people admire our strength, they are terrified by it too. It wouldn't be inaccurate to say that the WoL gets held at arm's length due to having monstrous levels of power. Not too mention being hard to relate to, as they live their life itinerant.

I mean, he and Alisae are louisouxs grand kids right? Guess thats enough for the scions to take them in, either as a favor to louisioux, or outright fact alone(probs homeless after he did the deed)
it would be interesting if they went away at the start of 6.0 and came back with more matured models, as its got to have been years now in game time. not to mention mentally/if not spiritually theyve been on the 1st for year before WoL shows up.

Alphinaud has definitely matured a lot over the course of the game's story. With that said, I'm still displeased that a sixteen year old is lecturing all manner of different world leaders from completely different cultures and backgrounds. I'd much prefer additional diplomat characters at this point.

Were it any other JPRG (with their dubiously young casts), Alphinaud having as much clout as he does would barely warrant discussion, but I feel like FFXIV's story is mature enough of the time that, yeah, it's kind of weird.

Haha, Cid has more vote than Y'shtola. This pleases me.

Hopefully 6.0 will be based on Audolin (FFXI) and that will from as a bridge to other FFXI areas.
