I actually like having front row seats to seeing how they develop the game and handle a bad launch.
Kind of like why i played apb (though i wasnt paying for that either) even though i knew it was going to tank.
lol yea. I wonder if Gamefirst can pull APB out of the sewer successfully.

Its possible, the game isnt HORRIBLE but realtime worlds grossly overspent their budget (spent millions just licensing songs alone).
they'll need a couple of things
1) they have to realize that weapon mods need to have utility rather than killing power so people dont feel there's an insurmountable gap between them and a player with a better gun that can only be bridged with their wallet rather than their skill.
2) Character mods pretty much invalidated the weapon mods, this shouldnt happen.
(while the weapon mods for the most part didnt turn out to be too consequential, the psychological aspects of it wreaked havoc on the community)
3) they need moderators on patrol often (there was virtually no in game presence from real time worlds which lead to so many problems)
4)bigger groups (easy to do)
5) instances people can que up for for some unique mission types,y'know things to do other than drive around the city doing the same four or five mission types (they're already planning on doing this)
6) DONT SPEND MONEY YOU ARENT GOING TO MAKE BACK HURRR A DURRRRRRRR
3 and (obviously) 6 are the most important, 1 and 2 are probably something they're not going to do because gamesfirst is going with the free to play model .
Edit: oh an ad campaign, APB's publicity was straight up awful, most people didnt notice it until it was crashing and burning.
Well said brother... the love/hate relationship I had with XI was stressing but oh so rewarding when I finally completed that incredibly hard task, or beat that impossible mob, ect ect. I'm sure XIV will have rewards just as gratifying when it's all said and done.

i keep coming back because i still enjoy the game even with all its flaws. if i didn't enjoy it in the least i'd leave. there's things i dislike, but not the entire game. my main reason for staying is the ls i am in honestly. we have a pretty close group and enjoy the game through each other. i have no idea how i'd stand crafting without voice chat and ls chat.

I keep on playing for the hope the game will one day shine how it was meant to be. Even if it means rerolling characters a dozen times over trying like I did in FFXI.
FFXIV is also the first MMO I've been able to see the launch of. There's something about being able to play a game for along time that you've been around for it's birth for.
Someone promised me cookies.
One of the reasons is that I haven't enjoyed any other MMO to be released recently. Aion, Vindictus, DCUO, Rift... none of them could hold my attention.
It's true that there's not much to do but level and do the few storyline quests that FFXIV has, but I still find it enjoyable. The key for me is that leveling is enjoyable. And like everyone else, I think it comes down to LS, friends, and doing things with a group.
