I find this nostalgia for another game to be a bit disappointing. If all you wanted is a full WoW-clone by another name, why bother playing this game? You can get all of that great stuff in WoW itself. WoW is still available, there are a lot of players there. It has game mechanics you appreciate. Go, play. Come back here when you want something with a different emphasis.

Go for the PvP, come back for the story. Go for the achievement system, come back for the crafting and gathering. Go for the "two warring factions", come back for the "you matter" in this game.

Then go play Blade & Soul or Rift or TESO or SWOTR or GW2 for the things you like about those MMOs. Come back when you're done savoring the differences that make those games what they are, when you want what FFXIV currently offers.

“The achievements feel lacking” =/= “wow is the best game ever and I wish ffxiv was anime wow”. It is possible to recognize aspects that we like/think could be improved in this game and in others.

IMO weird achievements like kill X with Y or die while doing Z could be fun. Wouldn’t mind more carrots to keep me running dungeons/trials.
