    2 things:
    1: it’s final fantasy. There is very little if anything imaginative to the series when it comes to naming characters/creatures, jobs or the like. Nearly everything present in this particular final fantasy is a callback to older games (which are themselves largely taken from Dungeons and Dragons) or random cultures the world over.

    2: I will clarify my above post, but I didn’t really write anything regarding mechanics, just specific job names. At this point I don’t think they can add a job that is all that much more exciting than we have which when compared to something like Guildwars is...well..lacking. Love this game for the story, friends and atmosphere...but exciting gameplay it is not.

    *I think this will be wrapped into Viking, and essentially a melee summoner.
    *Or alternatively a more fleshed out limited job for soloing content like Eureka.

    Chemist: Strong yes, but renamed.
    *There is some precedence, but the name and description is too similar to Alchemist
    *Most likely will become something like Herbalist or Apothecary. Possibly just straight Medic.
    *I see this being more of a technology based healer than chucking potions or actually mixing things.
    Okay, I've removed a few from this list, with my primary assumption being that there will not be more then 4 of a class type released at a time until there are 4 of all of them.

    There's only 3 healers, so the ones that might be more healer might end up there. I could see geomancer, or alchemist/chemist, as a healer.

    I could see beastmaster or mystic knight as ranged physical.

    I could see time mage or mystic knight as ranged magica.

    I'd say Geomancer would make a better magic dps than healer.
    Any overlap with WHM and AST would be negated by being a different role, as well as potentiality giving us spells like Quake and Tornado.

    Jobs have a complicated history. As in, I would not assume there are 4 slots to “fill”.

    I’ll copy paste from an older post of mine, with some minor edits:


    My Assumptions:
    1) Jobs (or really any additions) are chosen based on what will sell the expansion/get fans excited. $$$ (obvious statement is obvious).
    1b) Jobs are also chosen by sheer amount of work involved. The more assets required, the less likely; jobs which can recycle existing assets, more likely.
    2) Job choices are not forced to fill missing "gaps" in roles. (4 magical ranged including BLU before a 3rd physical ranged)
    3) The way roles are organized is fluid. (2.0 initial release organized Magical and Physical ranged DPS as simply Ranged DPS)
    4) New jobs can be influenced by the place we're going, but this is not a requirement. (YoshiP was originally planning to do SAM in HW)
    5) YoshiP has repeatedly said he wants new, original ideas (Ravana, Mechanist, Hrothgar race), but there is a strong trend to use pre-existing established jobs.


    Job History:
    2.0: 2 Tanks, 2 Healers, 2 Melee DPS, 3 Ranged DPS (Initial Release)
    2.x:+1 Melee (Balance of 3 Melee and 3 Ranged DPS)
    3.0 +1 Tank, +1 Ranged, +1 Healer. (Ranged "split" to Magical Ranged and Physical Ranged)
    4.0 +1 Magical Ranged, +1 Melee
    4.x +1 Magic Ranged (Can be ignored, it's BLU)
    5.0 +1 Physical Ranged, +1 Tank
    So while I highly highly doubt it, it is entirely possible we get magical melee and physical melee. Or that dancer, bard, summoned and red mage somehow regroup to support dps. It’s fluid.

    If we were thinking things are settled and not so fluid anymore, yeah, we could easily see what you’re saying with Beastmaster being a kind of mix of Ranger (DND/FFXI Ranger)

    I don't think 5.3 was teasing any specific jobs. Time could prove me wrong depending on what's announced for 6.0, but I don't think any of these things were teasing anything.

    first blue mage isn't bad i don't think any these jobs will be added at all. first berserker weapon look like gaint sword so it might be dark knight of another world. second yoshi p mention these where more of way tease for job people liked not to be added. i think geomancer will like to be added. i think issue with these job i can't see these jobs every have ability have any jobs ground work

    Well we did get a new scion, and the scion/story characters(like rogue/ninja, rdm for alisae, etc) usually the first way they tease a new job. So keep on the lookout what they do with the new member, because he's likely going to showcase the next job(probably healer imo)

    I'd sooner watch Alisaie, complaining about she feels like she hasn't progressed... plus the fact that she and Alphinaud are still in their Stormblood outfits instead of receiving new gear like the others.

    i hope Ryne join them. i been hope for dev to take up my ideal of Medic because that give Alisaie a chance to advance because she has angelo which could be in source appear as dog instead of a pig

    I thought Yoshi P specifically said there was a hint?
    It's whether or not that hint was towards one of the dungeon bosses Thief/Necro/Berserker (unlikely imo) the trial boss Mystic Knight (slightly more likely but still not confident) or the mention of Apothecary in the msq quests themselves (most likely).
