Not a good enough reason sadly. We have already goone away from anything that " fits ". That stop being a thing a long time ago. We literally have super giant robots in the game. We can legit do a crossover with mega man and it'll fit just due to that alone.

I'm sorry but your reasoning for justifying this isn't good enough either. With your logic it's ok for final fantasy to do a resident evil collab because Zenos rose from the dead therefore he is a zombie. You can literally make any excuse to justify something. That doesn't make it right.

Yokai gets a pass because it's just silly "seasonal" side-content that doesn't matter anyway and only offers cosmetics.

The Nier raids make up a chunk of actual serious content; they are our 24-man raids for the 5.x era.

The game's identity is fine. It's people who have to get over their hang-up from things being originally from other games.

Seeing how many people are against such an crossever than for it I doubt that its just a few of us being hang-up. Maybe we just dont want the game to used as a plattform to advertise other games? Just look at the Nier raid. This is nothing more than a huge advertisment of the nier games and that with content that normally is used to flesh out the world. Its fine if you dont care about this but others might not like it, me included.

There is nothing wrong with paying tribute to certain things, but outright just putting that stuff into the game? Thats just selling it out.

Then they could simply just give us our own version of a superhero costume (maybe with a cute side quest where some kids drew it for us because we are a hero in their minds and some NPC crafted them). See with that way they pay a tribute to it without just selling it out. Maybe even get us a shield designed around the FF style and thus we are Captain Eorzea or something.

(Throw in some funny sentences in the descriptions for it and there you have your hints at the other franchise without the need to copy it)

This honestly sounds like it could be a great All Saints' Wake event. The orphans of Gridania trying to create a Warrior of Light costume, not realizing until the end that they've gotten the actual Warrior of Light involved.

No matter how old it is, its still advertisement..and yes even crystal tower can count as advertisement but at least its for their own franchise. (And its much more hidden and better woven into the story than the nier raid) So yes I would love to have more FF14 original raid content in the game. I also complained about the ivalice raid when it came out because it felt much more fanservice..the same with the Omega fights. But at least it tried to fit into the story a bit. The nier raid is not from FF and right now does not fit at all..we barely even have much story right now.

So please dont try to spin it like I am fine with other such stuff if its mostly just copied. I am not..but Nier takes the cake in the raid department and Yokai was worse enough for the event department. I dont want more of that in this game.

You do know that I was talking about the like ratio in this very thread and not the unknown numbers of people in the game itself? Also how do you know how many of those people just get the music rolls because they just get them all but still dont like the crossover itself? I dont like Yokai but I am a collector so I did it. I dont like the Nier raid but I am still running it simply to upgrade my gear and if I get a music roll thats great. (I do also like some of the music in it but I am still against such crossovers in general...)

You yourself cant say how many people actually love the raid (and how many of those are then loving it because they love Nier) or are just doing it for other reasons. Running something does not mean that you love it. So lets not say that we are a minority that hang up on this. At least in this very thread we are not. (Which was my whole point)

I feel like the difference lies in the boundaries of the crossover.

FFXIV is built around taking bits from other Final Fantasies and integrating them into its narrative. It takes elements of FFIII and weaves them into the world of Eorzea in a way that you don't need to know anything about FFIII to follow. It's inspired by another game but it's not actually the same, and it's primarily written to make sense in the context of FFXIV. Everything you need to know is explained within the FFXIV storyline and makes sense, even if you have no idea it's a crossover.

The Ivalice raids, while following within that "adapting FF" boundary, felt too reliant on their own game to me. I haven't played any of the Ivalice games but I frequently felt lost while playing the raids - too much talk about historical events which I assume were recapping the events of the original games, and therefore having played them would help to keep track of who and what they were talking about.

And NieR... aside of "moving the goalposts" to involve a game that isn't an FF game, it's not even trying to make sense within the world of FFXIV if you haven't played NieR. We're two-thirds through the series and we've barely spoken to the supposed main characters, let alone been given a reason to care about them. I can't see how the promised third-act twist is going to have any impact if I'm not invested in what has happened so far.


Edit to add: Crystal Tower feels like it was inspired by FFIII but it's not that important if you haven't played it. NieR feels like "go play our game so you can understand what the heck is going on here" and I resent that approach - it's put me off ever trying it, if anything. Whereas Crystal Tower did actually inspire me to go play the original FFIII because I liked the FFXIV version in its own right and I was interested to see where it originated. The other raids seem back-to-front in their approach by comparison - relying on people to have played the original games before they can appreciate the raid plot.
