Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

I don't think anyone has brought this up. But everyone keeps saying "Well GW2, WoW, etc have beast races that work and blah blah". Isn't everything based off what game engine they use? FFXIV uses Crystal Tools. Maybe it's not cut out for Hrothgar and Viera equipment capabilities, etc.? I don't know, just a thought.

It's partly engine thing, but also code thing. The game is 7 years old, 10 years with 1.0, and its code never was really good - they still fix issues from 1.0 that affect the game up to this day. In this regard it's easier to rewrite entire game from absolute scratch, but it's a very long process so they're trying to fix what they can instead. They are successful at this, too, but it happens slower than average player would want it to happen.

It frequently blows my mind when people think hrothgar faces are just so IMPOSSIBLY BEASTLY that simple hats on the top of the head won't work for them.
Their faces barely extend farther than some real life humans noses/jaws can go.

GW2 has a male and female bestial race with full facial morphing and various hairstyles that go with every face, horn styles that go with every face, and various other way more bestial features that are more than some effects makeup on a buff human male body,
and they can wear every hat, mask, tiara, and helmet in the game.








It just takes a bit more work. And some don't work out as well as others, but at least the option is there.

I'm of the same mind with viera hairs and hats too. The "it's impossible because they're so uiniqe" is pr speak for "we don't have the hours to devote to this" :T

The funny thing is they CAN do that for hrothgar but they refuse to resize hats for Viera/hrothgar for some reason.

They could if they wanted to put in the effort of making custom headgear for viera/hrothgar. They stopped even doing ear holes for miqo'te a LONG time ago. I suppose they would cite something like, "doing so would delay our patch schedule" - which is like the stated reason for not releasing male viera/female hrothgar. Custom fitting headgear (or unique models) for viera and hrothgar must just take too much time, so that's why they stated at the outset that headgear would be unavailable for them.

i tried for some weeks be a hrothgar but i feel so bad about limits of character customization so i moved back to miqote , i am not sure about how male viera would look like, but really creating two races with fixed gender aka male/female was just a bad move, they should just add both of viera since it was part of quest somehow in SB but that idea was just bad, making people sad about that whole concept :C
i hope they will do something with it in 6.0

Yeah, it's a lot less active compared to how it used to be.

For my part, I've scaled back my time in-game in order to play other games. I'll be logging on once or twice a week - and checking out tomorrow's patch - but for various reasons, including the lack of male viera, my enthusiasm towards FFXIV simply isn't what it used to be.

My bad then, hard to often tell with the headgear mess we have with them. Not playing them so could not tell, does the Vath one work tho? Vanu Vanu is a mask and hides the head basically so, but Vath i am unsure since it kinda fits around your face and all. Unsure on Vath and Vanu Vanu on Viera also. Anyone knows?

Just checked, I can wear the bird heads, but not the Gnath head.
