Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

I'm sorry, BUT WHO CARES if viera and hrothgar were gender locked?! Like seriously. Viera were chosen over femhroth initially, and put on the backburner for male viera BECAUSE it's a big female furry race, that only a small niche will actually play, in my opinion.

People who wish to play their proffered gender with those racial features care.
Also, Viera female and males are first to be completed in both cases of them being added for the clear fact that Viera are "pretty humans with bunny ears" and Hrothgar are expressive furries with CC options and face shapes that no other race has. Logically it's harder to make an expressive 3D rendition of a furry that fits the FF14 aesthetic than to make or understand an attractive, reserved human with rabbit ears. Not saying anything is easy about adding new races, but it's easier to make something that looks human than to make something that doesn't-but-kinda-does-and-is-animal.

As for play rates, the popularity of Female Hrothgar depends wholly on how the devs choose to design them ... simple as that. (Regardless of how many people asked for Male Viera I'm sure most wouldn't play them if they had Hank Hill's body)
Make them "tall Mithra" and they would likely be fairly popular if that's what the devs want from them, but make them "Femroe with furry heads" and I agree that they would struggle to pass 3 digits, which is why I don't think the devs would waste their time doing that when this is their 1 chance to make something for people who like furry women as they draw in fans from Western MMOs (that's the whole point of Hrothgar BTW. They're not added to service fans like Viera were, they are cited as being added for game health. They were made to make the game more appealing to people who play WoW and ESO as fantasy furry races were something those Western MMOs have that this one lacked. Having these choices is actually important on the macro scale).

I'm REALLY hoping none of the "male" hairstyles are gender-locked. Even the "short, messy bob" doesn't look like a Female Viera couldn't use it. Heck, the female Viera short hairstyle already looks more boyish than that one.

Very pretty indeed! I'm fairly certain it's what I'll be using for my Viera once I can make him. The other options are going to have to be pretty good to beat it.

It would be strange if female Viera gets bangs/no bangs option and male Viera doesn't. Hopefully they give us the no bangs look; as that is the popular/iconic Fran/FFXII Viera look.

we don‘t know anything for sure yet, but im quite positive about female viera and male hrothgar getting some new hairstyles with 6.0.
while they are working on the opposite genders, i’m rather positive they will have some time in between to work on some hairstyles for both races. i‘m pretty sure we‘ll hear something about them with the next live letters coming.
just remember, yoshi p just a few months ago made it seem like the opposite genders are definitely not happening in the near future and surprise, surprise they did it and it caught everybody off guard. the recent german interview just gives me very positive feelings about it.

Alot of fanfare for what amounts to a flavor of the month. Shame these resources weren't spent on making the game better. Although I guess the Twitter goblins got what they want.

Generally speaking, I just want the game to end up having a major competitor at some point in the future. Healthy competition has a sturdy track record of allowing businesses to mysteriously overcome 'limitations' based around resources.

I don't necessarily agree with how the development team have chosen to allocate many resources over the years but it is what it is. I'm already finding myself in a similar position to where I stood back when I started to get weary of WoW. FFXIV isn't quite to the same levels of disappointing just yet but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't crossing my fingers for the likes of Blue Protocol, Ashes of Creation and Pantheon to do well so there's more choice and competition on the MMO market.
