Judging from the original draw/stock/royal road system for AST, I have a feeling that's what they were going for with Chemist before they gave up on it before HW.
If that they let me heal my teammates with a rifle or and healing potions/grenades like Ana from Overwatch, I'd be be so happy.
Plus it's like the only Final Fantasy job left that would fit a healer job rather the one ones where they would get butchered into the role like Geomancer. Time Mage is would feel too similar to AST for my taste.
Oracle...Idk I haven't seen enough of it to decide it's a good fit.
On the one hand we haven't gotten that highly coveted XIV-original job yet (Assuming GNB and AST which were both based off a character or two each, doesn't count), so there is a chance that the devs would make a new healer whole cloth.
OTOH that we're 3 expansions without said job already implies the devs perchance to borrow from older games instead, making Chemist more likely.
BTW why do people want/expect a completely original job anyway?
Wasn't gunbreaker supposed to be that? I guess a bit like AST?On the one hand we haven't gotten that highly coveted XIV-original job yet, so there is a chance that the devs would make a new healer whole cloth.

Or no? If no then I'm actually suddenly more excited because that's interesting lol, but I was under the assumption GNB was the original job. Not a negative comment towards GNB, just kind of perked ears if they're still working on some truely 100% original concept, which to be honest sounds quite hard since they've so much you could reference it to, but yee...
Original is interesting since it doesn't have a strict form and so they have more freedom, of course if they don't take advantage of that then it could be not that exciting that it's original, but if they do then it can be quite interesting to watch something original grow.
Like with White Mage or Black Mage you already have a strong idea how it'll grow, that doesn't mean it's not interesting just that you know what it's peak looks like for the most part and that they've so much to reference (and fans want quite a bit of references) that you can even semi-guess any new things to happen.
So for me an original FF might just be Vincent and Tera Bradford transformation concept turned into a job, but someone might just say that's not original because it references something. So again, was GNB not the original? Because I thought it was :3...
Oh okay, gotcha![]()

I was always under the impression that Yoshi said “we would like to” make an original 14 class not “yes, there is one coming.”
And then we got GNB, which I would say is pretty original “class” wise. Of course the fact that Squall also used a gunblade, not so much him as a class.
I'm also certain that Seifer was also inspiration for some elementsI was always under the impression that Yoshi said “we would like to” make an original 14 class not “yes, there is one coming.”

This, although I will qualify it by adding "in game". There have been several out of game teasers that were quite on the nose. I'm not particularly interested in a chemist/apothecary job aside from the fun of having another job to get to cap, and even I immediately got the impression that this was a nudge and a wink to a future job. It just feels about as blatant as it could possibly be without outright telling us, like when Yoshi wore the Scarlet Witch t-shirt at an event teasing Red Mage.

I dunno about the “I can’t think of any other time a job hint has felt so on the nose.”
I mean we have the founder of a nation being a Geomancer, a dungeon dedicated to them, you fight the deity they worship in a trial, there is a quest chain involving them and as of 5.0 there is a school in Kugane teaching people how to be a Geomancer.
This isn’t even involving the mounts, housing items and side quest text in Yanxia.
I can’t see the game implementing this much about a Named Final Fantasy staple class just to..... have it mentioned. It would be the first time in game for sure.
Nothing about the Geomancer parts of SB felt like them saying that it would soon exist. They were positioned as just being another type of Astrologian for one. If anything it was them just saying "Hey guys! Astrologian is what we gave you for FFXIV's version of a Geomancer and we just went with a time mage theme instead of the land and elements theme because that wouldn't have made sense in Ishgard but here's some Geomancer lore for those of you who wanted Geomancer."I dunno about the “I can’t think of any other time a job hint has felt so on the nose.”

With the apothecary section of 5.3, the storyline is that a bunch of people want to become warriors of light and all the Scions gather around and discuss the merits of one such person wanting to do so by becoming a Chemist. It just feels so out of the blue and "hey guys! warriors of light can be chemists too!"
Of course it's just speculation, but something about this one feels right. I do agree that the Necromancer and Berserker rumours from the new dungeon are a lot flimsier, although the Necromancer one is fun enough to get behind just on that merit alone. Berserker speculation especially is incredibly weak since to me it's super obvious it's just a warrior.
