I haven't done the raid yet, but good to know. Most things in games don't bother me, but some do - like - E6/Furor? Looking at the arena in the phase after Garuda and Ifrit merge genuinely makes me nauseous. The spinning and the bright garish colors are just. I can't think of a better word than nauseating.

I get motion sickness from most games that use the Unreal Engine, even if it's in third person. Well at least in OP's case it's just one tiny section of the entire game and they don't need to be actively watching the screen at that moment. Still sucks when it happens though.

Why specificall the unreal engine? The way textures pop in, perhaps? Thats one notable thing in unreal but otherwise i cant imagine why that'd be the case for you.

Thanks for that link! The field-of-view stuff is interesting. I didn't know they set it differently for PC and console games but that makes sense.

Generally speaking though, I've never liked first-person games exactly for that limited view and the feeling that you're looking down a tunnel. Third-person games give a much better approximation of how much of the world you can see around you - you know where your feet are; you can see something approaching you from the side.

I honestly wish I knew. It's not exactly the sort of thing you could go to a doctor about. If I had a tremendous amount of money I probably would have tried to find out exactly why this happens to me. I do have a neurological condition but feeling ill from certain games or engines has been happening to me since long before that condition developed. I know other people who react similarly and they're otherwise perfectly healthy people.

The worst for me is the Source engine. Even if I'm watching someone else play my stomach turns if the player moves their camera too fast. I can't watch or play a game that uses that engine for more than five minutes. I end up feeling like I've been in a car for several hours and I need to lie down to recover. And no amount of messing around with FOV, camera and frame rate settings helps.

Because of this I can't play most first person games, and those that I can play have to be on console. Proximity to the screen also affects how badly I react but with some games or engines it doesn't matter how far I am from the screen, I cannot watch them without quickly feeling very ill.

I have tried to train myself to be able to play these games but it's hard to push through when you feel ill so quickly and it takes about an hour to feel okay again. I just gave up and accepted that there are some games I have to entirely avoid.

I know, I find it really interesting as well, how the brain's wired, and why we respond the way we do to certain stimuli I'm scared of heights, some parts of games would give me vertigo, yet oddly enough in Ffxiv, I barely have no issues. For example, I can do the new Leap of Faith, and the Kugane tower no problem.
