Story/level boosts are not the same thing at all because it's a paid option, not something you get automatically. It is also the same known set of change for everyone, not something that would depend on a player's previous progress.

If you want to use that as an example, then I'm also fine with having a paid option to copy some stuff to a new character (as long as it doesn't break things).
It being paid isn't the point. It's how it jumps a character's progress instantly, which also does unlock content, mounts, minions, emotes and achievements for you.

If anything story/level skips are more "problematic" than someone's main character's progression carrying onto the alt because the player themselves done/achieved whatever it was already, meanwhile the story/level skips are available for new players and not exactly "earning" that progression. Still, does that affect or hurt me though? Not really.

Also it's better if something like this is optional anyway. Having options is good.

The way I see it, in any group activity, you can be "carried," so as far as I'm concerned, a boost is just to save time even though I wouldn't personally suggest it, especially on your first playthrough. If people want to learn how to play the game, they will regardless if they used a boost.

(That said, as far as I'm concerned, the game starts with the first cutscene, and if you're going to pay to skip most of it, then you get what you get. If you enjoy it, great, if not, oh well.)

Yes, the optional part is the key thing for me.
