The title of this thread is "Request for Summoner". And if the OP decides to talk about something else with disregards to their own title, even if it's somewhat related, that's their fault :PGreen is to Summoner like red triangles are to White Mage though!
And on another note, I find it funny so many people just post "Summoner, yes please!" instead of reading the OP and finding out this thread is about the job-specific gear not the actual job/class >.< lol.

you summoned me, now what
I would like smn. Even if it's just like it was in XI, I have no problem with that. If it's nothing like it was in XI I would have no problem with that also.

my request for summoner:
Carbuncle ;D

This game is not WoW; if you want WoW, go play WoW. If you get butthurt when people mention Final Fantasy XI, then shut up about WoW.As much as it might hurt you, and as much as someone else brings the balance issues up, FFXI had the jobs right. And, you know, this is a FF, and I don't see you guys complaining about people asking for WoW things. So please.
Also, it's not like this dev team is being true to the roots of the jobs anyway.

WHY THE HOLY HELL DO WE KEEP GETTING POST LIKE THESE WHEN ITS BEEN STATED HOW MANY TIMES NOW THAT A SUMMONER AND PET CLASS WILL BE ADDED. FFS LEARN TO READ THELODESTONE, FORUMS, AND INTERVIEWS.Yoshi P. said that he loves mage classes and esp the summoner and this excites me since one of my main jobs on xi is smn
Just one small request...
can you please...
pretty please...
NOT make us look like a demented, horned christmas elf again...
It would be MUCH appreciated

Take a look at the notes for upcoming updates. "Using" the powers of the primals IS mentioned, although not in explicit detail.
As much as I would LOVE Summoner to be added to this game, I'm willing to wait for when they can truly get it right. I'm sure it will be released eventually (how can it not?), and probably at some point after multiple 'primals' have been released. I'm thinking they may release another pet class first (beastmaster?) to get the 'pet' class mechanics out of the way before adding mp and other special abilities to the mix.
When I first started SMN in XI, it was still a 'novelty' class. By that I mean there were no skillchains, magic bursts, etc. They greatly improved SMN over time, and this is why I think it's important we wait for them to really 'work out the kinks'. SMN was not taken seriously at first, but over time earned respect from every linkshell. In fact, it became the 'go to' job for many fights. This is the type of 'summoner' we'll all come to know and love.
I am very happy with the complexity and uniqueness of the Ifrit battle. Only time will tell whether or not the Garuda one will be just as unique/special. The avatar fights in XI were pretty much the same (stand in the same spot, use the same strategy), although there were a few differences with abilities. Ifrit in this game requires movement at certain points, etc. I'd like to see something completely different with Garuda. Part of the fun of SMN is 'earning' your avatars... so I'm hoping they make it challenging.
As far as the gear... I'm SURE the outfit will consist of mostly green. The horn will also PROBABLY be there (due to the fact that they must make specific equipment for each slot, unlike other games where a character simply has an outfit). Hopefully it will have more colors than green, though, and be a bit more complex than in XI. The horn CAN look good if they are stylistic about it. It was a bit too 'clunky' in XI (in my opinion), but that seems to be the default 'look' for summoner in past games.

One of the worst things that the devs could do is rush the creation of an Evoker/Summoner class/job in order to get a pet job out asap.
Take some time, get it right.
I'm not worried about the eventual SMN AF. Akihiko Yoshida's designs for this game have all been stylish updates to the traditional looks - and I'm sure Summoner will be no exception. As far as the gear...
