This is the reference I used. It shows 4.8 million characters in the game with the number of viera being 149,000

Unless this information is out of date, that would make the number of people playing that race as less than 1% of the total population. But even if that number has increased, it's still a comparatively small number of players to the population as a whole, and given the two major issues of the developers having to work with increased obstacles due to COVID and being months behind, the priority needs to be on the things that keep the game making money, namely finishing off the Shadowbringers patches and the next major expansion as opposed to increasing the number of hats one race can wear.

That's not to say I don't think the race should be able to wear hats. I admit the state it launched in was pretty disappointing, but also at this point you know what you're getting into with that race. Also all the work that has been accomplished has been done by people working on it in their own time, meaning without getting paid. So to demand even more comes across as incredibly selfish, and ungrateful for what work was already done by those people without pay to give at least some options. Remember originally Viera and Hrothgar weren't even able to wear glasses, for example. All that was done by people on their own because they just wanted to make the game a little nicer.

It's around 9% for active, according to the same page. Pretty good for having a single gender and being new.
also 39% of all viera are active while 13% of Miqo'te are active.

The are 14 possible gender race combinations. equal distribution would make each 7%.

The clipping wouldn't even be that bad for most hats/helmets.

There's a lot of cases where I wish my horns didn't clip. There's a good handful of armour pieces (not just head ones) that I just don't wear because it clips too much. It's not the best option or execution.

Letting things clip seems to be the standard solution; we just have to come to the realization that FFXIV is clipping heaven and live with it.
It's been happening for years, and it only seems to be a big problem when it comes to Viera for some reason.

Crying for Viera is nowhere near the magnitude of the crying to fix 1.X. Not to mention crying when they already said why they couldn't do more, and no amount of crying will fix that problem either.

I don't think that one is as accurate as others anyway, but generally you want to refer to the 'active characters', not all characters ever made. The total characters created in the game also includes the gajillion midlander hyur bots trying to sell gil in starting cities.

According to the active characters bar graph there, Viera are the 5th highest race/gender combo, out of 14. I can't imagine that means the other 9 behind them are even further below 1%. I'm probably the worst person at math in the world, but I don't think that adds up.
