I also think they aren't going to kill her, since she's some sort of popular FFXIV "mascot". She's been representing FFXIV in other games for a while, and she's also gotten a special treatment in the MSQ with several exclusive outfits.

Personally, I might be dead inside but I don't feel attached to her at all, so I wouldn't mind it if they ended up killing her for real.

Man I hate what Blizzard did to Sylvanas, she used to be one of my favorite characters ever.
Then they just turned her into a cartoon villain after the Lich King was killed in WOTLK.

She's still my favorite character in that entire game, but...at this point I think they need to put her out of her misery before they ruin her character further.

Take this with a massive grain of salt as I've not read much of the MSQ (did do ShB in full), but I've never cared too much for her either. :P

The 1.0 Limsa opening scene when she comes in and saves your arse with her bubble always gave me goosebumps, but that was probably the only time I've liked her. Those intros also solidified Yda and Papalymo as my favorites due to their personalities and relationship in that scene. I realize how ridiculous that is to base any opinion on intro CSs from a 10 year game, but there we have it!

I do plan on working through the full story once they release the revamped ARR MSQ. I figure 7+ years in, I should finally know what's going on. X:

I hope not. She's the only one with agency at the moment. Everyone else is just reacting to her, though there might be some development Alliance side if rumors are to be believed.

Honestly, considering the player character isn't really as prominent in the story (NPCs calling them champion/hero/commander/etc notwithstanding), Sylvanas is sort of my stand-in as the player character (gone wrong). And I play mainly (only?) Alliance...

I think the only thing that bothers me about Y'Shtola (besides her getting decidedly TOO MUCH attantion from SE outside this game), is her "Oh, this is a terrible situation! I know! I'll use Flow! It worked so well last time!"

not counting gameplay aspects, the fact that y'shtola is the face of FFXIV is (to me) the most disappointing thing about this game's marketing.

Well that and the state of the artwork book but that's a different rant.

Y'shtola is more interesting then most of the other Scions. Killing her off would just make the Scions less interesting. Frankly I think Thancred should go since the writers never seem to know what to do with him. Each game/expansion and he has a new personality.

Yshtola has the most interesting personality, but overall as a character story I feel like shes kind of flat. Shes just the student who is becoming cynical like her mentor. The blindness issue doesnt seem to be getting addressed either, though perhaps that has more to do with the circumstances of the first.

She should but sadly using her life force wont mean much if SE wants to keep her alive. They can just say that instead of living 70 years she will now die when she is 60 or something. (And since we barely even move the time bubble, I doubt it would become a problem for her). Of course this all could change if they wanted her death..in the end I am not a fan of their solution..it creates a harmless way to show that the character might one day be dieing as a consequence but since we saw through her eyes while playing her..right now there is no outright consequence unlike the one Thancred has.

So about OP: Honestly Ysthola would be one scion that could die. She got so many fake deaths already that its kinda getting annoying to see her alive and well. But of course only death if it makes sense..not just for the sake of it.



Wasnt this more about them using magic on them to look younger? Which is the reason why Thancred does look older after we see him again because unlike before he cant change his appearance anymore with his aether.

I am curious, could you post the sentence from the lore book where its stated that they can never truly age?

Per her entry in the lorebook:

I remember the "Archons never aging" thing being mentioned a little bit more in 1.0 but there's been a few throwaway lines in ARR onward that mentioned it, though I can't remember when and where. I thought there was supposed to be a roegadyn Archon out there from the previous era during the Flood, but he hasn't been mentioned since 1.0. Matoya is an Archon and she looks extremely old and has been around for a very, very long time so their aging could just be lengthened greatly.

Thancred only looks older in HW and SB because he has a beard and an eyepatch. He doesn't appear any different to me comparing ARR to ShB.
