    I see..... huh.

Maybe we old timers should make abbreviations for us old people too, hahaha.

    Anyways,

Reading through this thread, I get a distinct impression that many of you people in here are playing this game always with the mindset of "these people are inept and fools" when playing with others. Isn't that a tiring thing to do? Well...... I don't know, to me it seems real tiring for those who always feel themselves elite and more able than the majority to always feel that way every time they are engaging with others... but I guess some people love that kind of feeling.

The elite just want to feel above others. They don't care who they have to bring down, they just want to be on top.

Pretty sure they're trolling or whatever (although if he genuinely believes this, then you just need to find a random person with the Orbonne to Pick achievement on the 8th of January, when 4.5 came out).

I think there's some more miscommunication going on here.

I certainly can't speak for everyone but I get zero joy from the knowledge that the vast majority of people I play with in DF are uninformed and generally incompetent. It isn't a good feeling because ultimately I just want to clear things quickly and without issue.

Any sense of accomplishment that I may feel at being top dps as a healer is entirely eclipsed by the fact that the instance I'm in could be twice as fast if only the other people in it knew what they were doing.

There is a difference between understanding the absolutely cavernous skill gap present in this game and enjoying it.

Hell, if most of us enjoyed a feeling of superiority we wouldn't be out here advocating for and giving out advice. Advice makes people better, if the goal was to just 'feel above others' it'd be much easier to let people keep being bad.

This is pretty much my take as well. Yes I smile a bit when I'm top DPS as a healer because I've been practicing to get better at putting out more DPS while taking more chances in regards to dodging and slide casting. So seeing it come together really does make my day personally. However it's also incredibly disheartening because I should not be pulling top DPS as a SCH to the point where the only thing that's keeping me from hate ripping off the tank is the increased enmity generation ShB's brought to the table. It's why I desperately want the Hall of the Novice not only to be made mandatory, but to also be expanded to include mechanic demonstrations as well as soft rotation demonstrations for classes at specific level interludes. I don't think people are 'bad' because they're actually bad at this game, so much as I feel that the average person really does not understand the basics of their job or where to even start on theory crafting to get better - and that the game itself has failed them spectacularly in that regard.

It's more a mindset of, "I hope these people are good at the game." which over time morphs into, "I hope these people will participate when they're supposed to be playing the game." Like, it's really telling that it's more of a surprise when things go buttery smooth, no one dies, and bosses evaporate, than when they take so long that you realize that you're basically doing more than 1/4th of the work.

I don't count my expectations all that high, and I find myself having to continually lower them with each year that passes with this playerbase. I used to be of the mindset that it wasn't unreasonable to expect everyone to use all of their skills at regular intervals. Nowadays I'm just glad if nobody tries to AFK their way through the dungeon/content.

It's probably because I don't feel like I personally can make a statement like "I definitely know that the vast majority I play with in DF and uninformed and generally incompetent" because I honestly never feel or think that way so far. Yes people make mistakes here and there and occasionally wipes do happen, but I wouldn't then say that a vast majority of people I play with are 'uninformed and generally incompetent'.

But again, like I have said before, I have not accrued thousands of hours / years of experience playing this game, so maybe this is just me not playing the game enough to be exposed so thoroughly with these incompetences that I can with confidence say that the vast majority of people playing this game do not know what they're doing. Or maybe unknowingly, I too am a part of those vast majority of people--I don't feel like I am playing this game incompetently, but maybe I did.

Come to think of it, I remember something: the 1st time I played The Burn in MSQ, our party have had so much difficulty against the Mist Dragon that we wiped several times before finally won. Reading someone in this thread (or other thread? I forgot, I think this one) said that "Mist Dragon is extremely easy" made me pause a bit, because the first time I fought him I actually think he's quite challenging, and I got the sense that everyone in my party tried hard too, but we were just caught off guard by his various mechanics.

So maybe I do am a part of the "vast majority of people who are uninformed and generally incompetent"..... Ah well... all I can do is just practice more.

The difference is you want to inform yourself and improve. The people we're talking about usually don't want to improve at all and any smidgen of effort is too much stress and lack of fun for them to handle.
