I think the difference is this male boss just looks like a barbarian/berserker type character. Someone who is wearing animal skin to intimidate his enemies (and almost nothing underneath) rather than part monster. At least, it looks to me like all of his "monster" parts are part of his gear rather than part of his body, unlike with Scylla.

Well, Scylla is a caster. Even if that dude is just wearing a dog's head, it's still in the same vein I think in terms of design. Yeah, though he's probably just a barbarian dude pumped up on roids. I shouldn't have said "direct" but similar rather.

Usually ones with eyeballs and lips, neither of which Ifrit has. Skin instead of exoskeleton, kind of a big plus, and I admit I do tend to prefer men without three-inch-long talon toenails or needle-shaped teeth. Four-foot tall horns jutting from a hairless head usually doesn't do it for me either, but maybe my standards are just too high...

I'm starting to worry that some of you might find a brick wall attractive if you stood next to it long enough. You do realize that "vaguely man-shaped monster" is not the same thing as "This boss is literally just a slightly over-sized but otherwise normal woman" right? Like, that IS a difference you can parse? Please tell me it is.

Garuda has feathers covering her body, Echidna is half insect, Shiva would freeze your lips like a metal pole if you kissed her, Scathach has black eyes. All somewhat petty but so is 'oh he does not have lips so he can't be pretty, oh he has talons so he can't be pretty, oh his skin is rock coloured he can't be attractive'- half the female bosses have talons or horns or are part animal. There's a selection of near naked women, of fully clothed women, of near naked men, of fully clothed men- in general, they're all attractive because that's generally the style of SE- they make very attractive females and males, with the occassional Vauthry, FFIX's queen, or cuchulainn thrown in. If the addition of talons, feathers, fangs, horns, demonic eyes, etc... makes a male not look male to you, but does nothing to change a female's beauty I think you're creating a scenario in which SE could never win.

Omega, Kefka, Estinian, Gaius, Alphinaud, Thancred- between the highly muscular eikons and many of the other males you have a pretty wide variety of male body types- so you have naked men, well dressed men, you have muscular men, you have pretty men, you have dashing rogues. The majority of the men are good looking in this game, whether they're the classical muscular version of handsome or the more anime style pretty version. Do they meet your standard of beauty? No idea, and SE can't know that either- what they can do is provide variety, which they do.

Now I take from your judgmental snippets at the end of your posts you keep throwing my way that you're not actually looking for a discussion but an excuse to insult me. If that's seriously what you're looking for- a chance to judge what others find attractive, that's kind of sad but by all means go for it.

Different voice, as you give for an example, is a biological construct of what we view to be female. This is not really all that different from fish boobies in that regard if were talking about this from a 'quick read' design standpoint. We naturally associate higher pitched voices as being female, whether that's true or not.

The game, if we consider something, actually does distinquish not only body shape, but size for helping assist in determining female. While we dont have any specifics on if all females are larger than males, in this case, you get that.

Just because they are a biological construct it still can be used much better than female body parts that make no sense on that race. You could even go around and play with our view in this. Have a race where the males communicate in high pitched voices or "beautiful" voices (which are used to gain the attention of females) while the females sound horrible. You can then easily say that if you hear someone with a certain pitch they are males. Its not like they are forced to use our way of voices.

But there is more than that. Have same voices but different speech patterns. Or as some of the beast tribes do, show the gender through the way their names are.

Wasn't there literally a study done where they asked female participants to rate male bodies, and they assumed the most bulky, powerful body would be the highest rated but then the highest rated ended up being the one who looked generally fit but also significantly less imposing?

I do remember an experiment where women had to say which men they found the most attractive. First just with photos they in general pointed more towards those that are in the attractive category (as in our western view of attractive) but then they made the men go through a competition and suddenly the one that won this competition got most of the points from the women, which was not the one they have pointed out at the start. Of course that was just one experiment but it imo shows just how much a situation too can influence things.

He has great thunder thighs and definitely defined as strong in muscles, but the face kills it for me, in your image it looks a different shade to the rest of his skin(probably different in game but gotta wait at this point) the lips seem inflated and the whole face just seems off on proportions.

By all accounts he should have a well defined ass, but we won't see it, men aren't allowed to have a ass in this game, but if were female you bet that ass would be on display, which is what I think people are most harping on, it's not that they aren't doing more attractive male bosses but that when they do they either add more monster bits or cover them up but if it were a female boss they leave way more bare for people to oogle.
