I received a formal education on pedagogy. You do not have to ask for advice to be taught. It's odd you think someone cannot learn, if they did not ask to learn. We all learn all the time. No one ever stops learning.

Students in school do not always ask for help, but I give it when they need it.

I didn't say they can't learn, I said there's an etiquette to follow if you want to teach someone who didn't ask for your advice.

Your students already asked for your advice specifically by taking you on as their teacher; so you can give them advice whenever you want.

Not to butt into a conversation I left a long time ago, but aren't you the one that said people should offer suggestions and criticism in private? So why, after they offered to do so, are you telling them to do it in public instead?

Because I asked him to do it here; that's what soliciting is. Unsolicited criticism should be handled in private.

No worries, I think you just didn't understand my point. I never said it was rude to criticize someone in public if they tell you it's alright to do it in public. I told him we can do this here, so why would we have to do it in private?

Unless what you meant is he's the one who doesn't want to do this in public, which wouldn't really make sense.
