Computations and processing boils down more to client CPUs/GPUs than server load. When you zone into a zone you're only requesting character data once (until someone changes something, like going from dragoon to sam). The thing is, requesting bust or butt slider information wouldn't suddenly put the servers on fire, much less the game engine. Game engines slow down when there's constant changes; as I pointed out, butt slider data would be a one time transfer (and slowly continuous if more people appear). The only real issue is how many people are making the requests (that's what causes server lag); not so much the size of the packets. Of course network packet size is important but current day download/upload speeds are good enough to handle an extra byte or two.

Again, as Yoshida has said, this has more to do with minimum PC hardware requirements than game engine or servers.

The reason he went for that answer is because it's the truth. The game is built on spaghetti code that was outdated by the time 1.0 came out and SE probably forced the current team to use it to save a buck on a gamble. Because of that, they have to balance how many characters they have on the screen with the amount of character creation options and other really stupid stuff.
What does this have to do with him immediately saying they can't do it because they'd have to implement a rediculous cloth simulation to handle a butt slider? Why can't he just say "adding that feature to our current system would require an overhaul, and it's not high on priority right now"? None of this addresses the post you quoted.

Because he’s already said it. Multiple times. My point was to say that this is a topic that he is constantly asked in interviews and is probably tired of having to repeat it. I’m not sure what part of what he said in this specific interview is ridiculous. Having to adjust all the bottoms and many of the tops in this game to accommodate adjustable booties makes sense to me.

Yes. User hardware is important too.
Yoshi has stressed each thing at different times because both things are important.

Ok? So? Say it again. It's not hard. And handwaving it with "our system won't allow it atm, not a priority" takes less time than telling all this back(side) story about the hubris of 1.0, how the server will have a crisis if we ask it to calculate a thing, and how they'd have to wait for the ps6 to come out.

And I'm only using this response as an example. He has done this with many different, not butt related questions.

This is what I personally found rediculous:
We would have to remake each one because we have to anticipate some people might slide their butt slider all the way to maximum, and trying to accommodate for that is physically impossible unless we implemented this physics simulation so that the model of the fabric wouldn't overlap with the model of the behind.
Expecially when they thought that capes didn't need physics simulations to not clip through tails, or when they didn't need physics simulations to make jewelry, scarves, or other accessories ricochet off of breasts.

The answer is probably "we'd have to redo our robe rig to react to the butt slider (push the coat tails away from the body the higher the slider goes while still reactign to the simple physics animations), raise the pointof contact when the player sits, and then QA every animation and chair in the game, and that kind of technical animation work isn't in our budget right now" not "we gotta put in physics collision effects or it's impossible"

Like the rest of it was good solid answers, just every time, right at the start he goes with the worst case scenerio solution and it absolutely fries me.

He did esentually say that in the interview.

    No to missing genders
    No to character creation upgrades
    No to everything hahah

What will this next expansion have? 2 new jobs and MSQ?

They were never going to announce the missing genders in some random interview for an odd numbered patch. That is Fanfest material. They tend to keep their best cards fairly close until they're good and ready.

    I. Know.
Its the fact that he leads with the rediculousness.

I wouldn't expect them to, it's why I didn't say they should. My concern is that we'll get through the 3 fanfests and we're left with 2 new jobs and msq as the things we should be excited about. Instead of "we couldn't do missing genders" but we're working on character creation upgrades, or adding a lot of new hairstyles to all the races, or a fun open world Fate system similar to Bozja, or "Mythic" dungeons.

I just look at them brushing this new expansion at us, where they know we're waiting for the missing genders "answer," and not introducing something else to replace it with. I'm not sure how well that's gonna go, the game will start to look and feel very basic, for me anyway. I don't know if 2 jobs and msq will still do it for people.
