You know, it baffles me that we've hit this point where being a mentor is seen as such a bad thing. Those of us who just quietly go about our way and helping in what little ways we can are constantly thrust into the same pack and those who are absolutely terrible at it, and there's nothing we can do about it.
Found one long ago. Except this dude was a tonk and did nothing but meld in Mt. Gulg until he was kicked.
Honestly even though a lot of people just wear the mentor crown for clout despite being crap at the game, taking yours off because you don't want to be grouped with them just makes it easier for them to be seen as the norm. You should keep yours on and set a good example so people know that not all mentors are idiots.
Also, as for the thread, I actually have a nice story for once. I'm doing a last few runs of the Ivalice raids for the tome event and yesterday I had a SCH in my group that was actually good. For some reason almost every healer I meet these days is god awful, but this guy was beyond even decent, like he used all his skills very well (sorry I don't play SCH so I don't have a lot of specifics) and I was really impressed by his ability to actually mitigate huge attacks. I think he used Deployment Tactics after using Adloquium on someone in the Rofocale fight, so when he dove down we took like no damage at all. Usually people just put a bubble in the middle and call it a day but the smartest thing is to run away from the center anyway, so we all took like a tiny sliver of damage because of him.
It seems lately that I have to really fight to stay alive as a DPS despite only taking unavoidable damage because even when I'm in range of the healers they can't really be bothered (to compare, their WHM counterpart was casting Stone IV during an add fight when literally everyone got paralyzed, leaving the SCH to Esuna us one by one), so it was nice and even relaxing to have a healer so competent that I didn't have to stress about healing myself.
You get it when unlocking PvE mentor. They mentioned at some point that they do want to split it out and have PvP requirements needed to unlock it, but they haven't done so yet.
As for my own purely subjective take on mentor crowns, I do notice that I get less commendations with the mentor crown on then without it on and with no changes in how I do content. It's most noticeable when I'm on healer because without the crown, getting 2 or 3 commendations is pretty common. Turn on the crown and suddenly I'm lucky to get one. People either hold mentors to a higher standard or hold mentors in lower regard, or both. I personally don't care what icon someone has next to their name to commend and I don't even pay attention to it mostly because anyone can be good or bad regardless of the icon. If they output good dps or otherwise are obviously using their job to the full potential then they'll get a commendation from me.

So just did Rathalos with my tank. Normal.
Came across a heal with 29k HP. Was curious ; checked his gear.
He had like three pieces of fashion equiped.
I just don't get it.
Yeah but they didn't speak english, perhaps. It wasn't selected in their language setting.
It's alright, mistakes do happen. It's just that I came across so much stuff in dungeons and raids that it wouldn't surprise me if it was just someone doing this for a joke lol

Been awhile since I've seen a player I could actually call "toxic" in one of my runs earlier. Wanna guess who it was? A mentor.

Ran through Copied Factory earlier as RDM. Boy am I glad I did. Both healers in my group tanked the floor every 20-30 seconds on every boss and that isn't an exaggeration. For my efforts I finally got a pod minion so I guess it was worth it, but dear lord. I don't think I've ever seen a pair of healers do that. I certainly didn't feel bad for outrolling one of those healers by 1 point for the minion...they rolled an 88 and I rolled an 89. They also left me to rot on the floor for at least 2-3 minutes during the last boss despite having the MP to bring me back to life (after having been raised by me moments before, btw). Thankfully some random person from another group raised me. Thank you random person if you visit the forums!
