Was it a trade mentor?
Trade mentors often aren't real mentors. I mean, some have the best intentions and help a lot so you always can't judge, I'm a trade mentor myself. But sadly it's just a free ticket to mentorship. The requirements might as well not exist.

I had a trade mentor who tried to use the fact he was a trade mentor to say that it was okay for him to sit around berating me as I was healing Mt Gulg, up to and including an honest to goodness "lol Balmung" style comment (This on an alt on Aether). I'm not going to say all trade mentors are like that, but it is a thing that can happen.
For clarification, I had failed to keep him alive on a quad pull start at the dungeon I didn't even know was a thing. This didn't surprise me, since, as an alt, I wasn't exactly perfectly geared. It only got worse when he died after sprinting ahead after the first boss and not giving me a chance to get the healer gear that dropped that I needed (including, for some reason, mocking the fact that I needed the gear. I wasn't 80 at the time.)
He eventually tried to kick the NIN(???) which failed because I was on a team with the two DPS.

That is when you boot him. There is no reason to deal with that sort of thing ever, especially when your part of the group holds all of the power.I had a trade mentor who tried to use the fact he was a trade mentor to say that it was okay for him to sit around berating me as I was healing Mt Gulg, up to and including an honest to goodness "lol Balmung" style comment (This on an alt on Aether). We did. Partially because he decided to /sit with 2 pulls left in the dungeon. Up until then I was okay with just dealing with it because getting a tank for Mt Gulg was likely to be a pain (It did take a while for a replacement) and while I would have an easy time getting in still (Healer privileges), the two DPS, not so much.
We never did figure out why he tried to boot the (in game) silent NIN over trying to boot me, which he had the issue with.

FWIW, plenty of people qualify as being both trade mentors and regular mentors, but they can only pick one icon to display. Or you can join the cool kids club and not display either (like me!) and avoid that negative stigma Mentors are faced with.
Oh those unspecified mentors are referred to as Burger King Crowns.

Wait, hol'up-a-minnit
I'm 3 years into the game and you tellin me hiding the burger king crown exists?
wow.
Healing DRK is literally... the same since ShB. The reason why people think it's a meme to heal nowadays because DRK receives very little to no buff to their sustainability vs 3 other tanks getting something useful. If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.

I'm sorry, but mentors whether they hide the crown or not are not part of the 'cool kids club'. Cool kids aren't mentors, or rather meet the requirements of becoming one, but choose not to.![]()

Juuust in case you don't know where to look, it's in the search info section. Also, evidently PvP mentors are a thing now, too. Is that just a freebie these days? What are the actual requirements? I can assure you I am complete balls at PvP and heaven help you all if I start sporting that tag.
