Well, the thing is, one of Rogue's signature abilities is Hide and the class uses a pair of daggers as weapons. That fits Assassin/Ninja quite well.

I feel like a Red Mage/Swashbuckler would be more of an in-your-face type of duelist rather than someone who would be sneaking around. And if you're sneaking around, you have to be pretty slick in my opinion.

The way jobs were handled in ARR was poor in regards to SCH/SMN and that left a sour note they wanted to get away from.

But by these days, they're fine. SMN isn't exactly lacking due to SCH and vice versa. The shared attribute points a long thing of the past.
As long as we have classes, they have the option for multiple job stones.

Sadly, I doubt it'll ever happen
I don't really care whether they keep classes or jobs, just as long as it's one thing all the way through from level 1 to max level.

And having multiple job stones, while neat, can also be a source of unnecessary mistakes as people forget to equip them.

And I don't mind SMN/SCH remaining tied, but it's an option if they ever revamp the job system.

I would absolutely rather be a straight up damage dealing Archer than a pseudo-support Bard any day.

Oh, and maybe separating Scholar and Summoner, although I do like the free level to complete the role quests.
I mean for some classes the current system works better for their story and progression (CNJ -> WHM, THM -> BLM, LNC -> DRG) and I'd hate to see those stories get retconned away. :T (plus, a lvl 1 whm, blm, or drg just wouldn't make sense)

That's why I suggested the idea of moving the timeline forward. So a new character can start as a WHM after it's been reintroduced without retconning the fact that previously only CNJ existed.

And then anyone who wants to see how CNJ became WHM can use NG+.

    Re: Level 1 Jobs

I think they have an opportunity for a timeskip after the Hydeaelyn/Garlemald arc is over, that would be useful for a retool of classes as well as the job storylines, but OTOH, I kinda doubt the devs would seize it and such a timeskip would entail a removal or retooling of old content like what happened with 1.0.

    Re: Classes

I think the Limited Job system might actually allow the use of Class "Flavor" in those cases. Have them take the DOT/poison aspect up to 11 (within reason, due to FATE and Hunt content) and introduce them via the guilds (Say Oboro wants to use the Rouge's guild as a front and needs a method to find recruits like the WoL) and voila, you have a decent compromise unless you really love using the class animations in instanced content

Aside bonus would be that the Thief limited job would act like a quasi DoL for mob drops. as that would likely emphasize the mugging aspect.

Would require the reworking of a lot of new skills after 30. I can't imagine healing as a Conjurer without my WHM Skill set. I doubt the devs are prepared to consider doing that for all the roles.

I feel the same way, with the slight variation that I wish gld and pld were two distinct jobs. Pld could continue its holy/light combat aesthetic while gld is more down to earth/gritty combat (If that makes sense).

If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.
