Just curious, but how do you know they're doing it out of spite? People craft for different reasons, and their goals with the MB may not be completely in line with yours.

Lower prices aren't inherently a bad thing but when the prices tank so much that the profit margin basically doesn't exist for legitimate players anymore, then there's a problem.

I don't really care about people wanting to quickly unload unwanted stock by selling it at a huge markdown, but there's a fairly consistent problem across the game as a whole with bot farmers selling the crafted battle/gathering gear and consumables at unreasonably low prices and keeping them that way. Trying to compete with them usually just gets you spammed with undercuts which makes what little profit potential there is extremely tedious to actually obtain.

Do there need to be profit margins? Making things doesn't have to be about making as much money as possible.

Bothering to craft should have some payoff. Why make things to sell if all you're doing is wasting time turning mats into items , then into gil, then back into the same amount of mats?

Gil is undeniably pretty useless in the grand scheme of things, but I still like to feel as though I'm not just running a charity when I'm selling items.

I pretty much only sell stuff that has little to no competition on the market so I can actually dictate prices I feel are reasonable for the amount of effort it takes acquire the materials involved.

Because... you have fun? If you're not playing a game for some degree of intrinsic fun that's really not a good game. I don't play XIV because I'm sitting there trying to control the market board and get as much gil, but because I just find it enjoyable. That's why I craft and gather. It's a nice change of pace.

Has this player monopolized all the furniture items on the MB? I highly doubt that. You won't do very well in the MB game if you give up every time someone gives you competition. If this is a crafted item, have you considered putting up the raw mats for sale, or produce another furniture item? You're also not going to do too well if you don't broaden your scope on the items you put up for sale.

In short, you have to adapt to the MB. It will never adapt to you.

Far be it from me to yuck someone elses yum, but I'm comfortable saying that most players are looking for some sort of progression. Now whether it be monetary or item level or just collecting stuff, that's subjective, but most of the people who play this game aren't logging in JUST to process materials for other players.

Personally since they've reworked crafting I don't find any sort of entertainment value in something I can guarantee with the right macro.

Nobody NEEDS to make a killing off a sale, but as a lot of crafters also aspire to amass money to fund further crafting or just to have.. there's nothing bad about not wanting to craft for no profit margin.
