"New summer unpaid internships open. Must have bachelors degree, 5 years experience, and 3 professional references"Its not THAT different from alot of jobs today. Companies want people with Degrees and Experience with Points of Reference so they know what to expect out of the people they hire, much more that the person offers want they want/need. Most employers for a Business of this type and Caliber want somebody already equipped with the tools and Knowhow, instead of Investing in people to learn it after hiring and paying for the schooling to teach them.
Typical Business Stuff. Always make a Profit, look to go UP, never go Down.
Sad reality, doesnt matter how much Money a Company has, they view and weigh assets and other stuff way differently then how we think they Should or could.
And unless we have a Degree and we rank high enough sit at the big table, they arnt gonna listen to us.
Yup, sounds like most companies these days.
Reminds me of the Ahead of the Curve achievement in WoW. Groups use that as a requirement to join, but people can't join because they don't have the achievement. lol I'm sure there's plenty of wonderful talent being lost because companies refuse to offer any sort of training.
See, just settling for "Close enough" and just pouring money on 'The next best thing' can also hurt your bottom line and just cost money you might never see again or get a return on. Similar to GTAV Storymode Heists: how if you hire someone just "good Enough" you run the risk of loosing more then gaining any profit. That Hired Driver might crash and burn because they arnt a Skilled Driver, or that "hacker" might botch the Program needed to get into that Room, costing time and the Money you get at the end. They're only hurting their bottom line and innovation at the end of the day. They'd rather wait a decade to hire perfect candidates than invest on someone who's close enough. XIV would be a much better product, and probably have a lot more subscribers if they adopted the model I suggested. They can barely create the same amount of content they were creating during Heavensward, that's how strange the situation is with the company nowadays.
We like to think we know what would work and fix an issue, but there are other variables that have a Coinflip chance of stopping Progress as well.
Sad but true.Reminds me of the Ahead of the Curve achievement in WoW. Groups use that as a requirement to join, but people can't join because they don't have the achievement. lol I'm sure there's plenty of wonderful talent being lost because companies refuse to offer any sort of training.
Back When I was Job Hunting for my first job, this is pretty much expected. Needed SO much help to get past this Elite Barrier.
Was not 5 years, but they did require at least 3 years of experience. Everything else was as you said for my first internship.
Agreed, and besides it's mainly MMO battle design devs which they say are particularly scarce, but nonetheless, their current approach is to seek out already skilled workers rather than train them up (barring, again, the raid battle design, where they do some of that.)A multi million company like Square enix should be able to create internship programs that train people in these things through university partnerships and such. I'm surprised they haven't done this considering XIV is almost 6 years old. Or if that's too expensive (universities are money-hungry) then why not hire people with a general degree in 3D design and train them for 2 years?
Today's companies are really missing out on great talent by expecting them to have 200 skills by the time they apply instead of investing on them like companies used to do in the past.
I'm rooting for World of Warcraft to improve and really challenge FFXIV, Square enix is way too complacent.
When the game's story becomes self-aware:
I can't entirely blame them for that, when you're one of the top companies in the world for what you're doing, you can afford to be more picky. But if you're not finding what you're looking for in your current filter, it's probably time to expand your search.
I would really be surprised if in 6.0 the devs dont add the missing genders, they would be a perfect addition to the expac to not have it be just 1 job and some zones and I think it would give them so much good press and publicity, so I thinkthat if they can do it they will
You'd think; yet it's taking them more than 1 year to add hair styles to Viera and Hrothgar.I would really be surprised if in 6.0 the devs dont add the missing genders, they would be a perfect addition to the expac to not have it be just 1 job and some zones and I think it would give them so much good press and publicity, so I thinkthat if they can do it they will
I really don't see how the dev team has enough time or people to add the missing genders. I don't know what's to blame for their struggle; could be FFVII remake?
But what's obvious is that making new hair styles even for the "normal" races is also a struggle for them now. Not to mention DNC/GNB weapons, and we're now getting less dungeons than last expansion.
Them adding Hrothgar to lure Elder Scrolls players was their gamble, after that they're just going into sleep mode with the next expansion in my opinion. Next expansion is basically like Stormblood, barebones; the only selling point being MSQ and 2 new jobs. The rest is the predictable hamster wheel; dungeons, new 24 man raids, new 8 man raids.
Stormblood had 2 very strong jobs going for it at least; samurai and rdm, very iconic pull. While chemist is liked, it's not a classic like Samurai and Red mage. Next expansion I predict the exodus of FFXIV players to WoW with their new expansion, or just to ps5 and the many single player/online games it offers.
I don't really fault the XIV devs, Square Enix just needs to complete FFVII remake no matter the cost. And the cost of that means taking some of XIV's best 2D and 3D artists, as well as some of their best operations staff.
With all those points laid out, how do you see the missing genders making it in the next expansion? I've completely given up and am ready to jump ship to ps5 with Demon's Souls and spend 1000 hours playing that and other ps5 titles. Do I like XIV? Yeah, am I ready to be disappointed at the fanfests? You bet haha, the signs are not good my friend.
Sadly MMOs have just been cash cows for other projects since the dawn of the genre. Most of the money XIV makes doesn't get put back into XIV.You'd think; yet it's taking them more than 1 year to add hair styles to Viera and Hrothgar.
