A wonderful FFXIV experience tonight.

Just a little story that happened tonight that really made my night.

Crafting inside the adventurers guild I saw from the side of my eye Kipih (from the Raven Newspaper) run past me and head outside. Not thinking twice I stood and ran after her to see what was all the fuss.

Well, after calling some DoW friends over to chat, and speaking at lenght about the wandering minstrel that had appeared recently, I coaxed her to go outside Uldah to show off our new Gobbue mounts! (under the pretext that we would protect her if things went sour)

Would you believe it, she actually walked outside town with us to see our new mounts, and even lined up for some photos. (Poses included)



Honestly, I never though she would actually leave town with me.

Completely unscripted visits by GM in character like this is awesome. I hope they continue to do things like leave town, perhaps appear elsewhere in the world, do things like fight or heal, maybe summon things?

Anyway, because it was so unexpected that she would leave town to see our mounts, we were having a blast.

Whoever the GM controlling Kipih was did an amazing job thinking on the fly and stepping outside anything I've seen a GM do. Kudos to you GM!

Yeah, I'm going to have to google Ted Bundy.

First thing I thought of was the guy from that 80s TV show who sat on the couch all day with the obnoxious nymph wife.

You might actually be better off just thinking that instead of finding out who Ted Bundy was.

Awesome Doc, ingame RPing from these GMs was one thing, but being able to get them to come outside is something else.

And awesome job by the GM controling Kipih, perhaps someone could make a GM (paticularly in limsa) to go to the wandering minstral so they can see him, they could come out with some new things after they /tell him (well not really cos hes a NPC).

But good job doc and the GM for doing this, maybe it will go further after this, keep this sort of thing happening SE.

Ha! I wonder if it really is the same english rep playing this NPC or if they switch and take turns- The GM I had roleplaying this very same NPC was very quick to respond to my horrid spelling mistakes (lol ;-; ) And for the most part seemed to have a great deal of knowledge regarding the lore- well I guess that should be assumed they would know getting themselves into this kind of position and whatnot.

XD I wish I would have tried to lure them out~ although I didn't have a cool gobbue mount at the time of my encounter

Kudos~ and like stated in the few posts before mine I hope this sort of thing continues into 2.0

Although this is not a gameplay mechanic for those of us who care about additional things in this game I feel this really hit home.

That's awesome! I love that GM's in this game really 'step into character' beyond their role as game masters. I know many MMO's have GM's that speak to you 'in character' when solving your problems, but very rarely do they appear or actually interact with the open world.

Back when I played FFXI, two of my friends were getting married ingame. The GM that was hosting it was speaking in rhymes... it seemed extremely scripted, so I assumed it was just a bot or someone pressing macros on the other end. Anyway... when the crowd was getting rowdy (talking too much, not quieting down to let the ceremony begin), I said something akin to, "Guys, be quiet. The NPC is trying to speak."

Without skipping a beat, the 'npc' emote slapped me and then said... "I AM NOT AN NPC."

Yep, I was slapped by a GM and put in my place...

Way back when I played EverQuest (back when there were only 1-2 expansions), there was an event of characters that normally were portrayed by NPCs but were being played by GMs instead and were roleplaying one of them journeying to a city and meeting up with another character while a bunch of us players were simply gathered around like the doofs we were X)

Lucky me, one of them turns and looks down at me from up on their horse, and hands me a little bit of in-game money to run to the nearest tavern and buy drinks for everyone... I promptly ran into Felwithe, and crashed when I was zoning X_x

Regardless, events like that in these games are always cool X)

For the record, I linked this post to Kipih (German version) when she popped on our server this afternoon and she said she was honored haha. She also followed us outside and said that our goobbue mounts were funny looking, but she hopes to get one herself some day xD.
