I feel the game will continue on for far longer than 6.0. MMO's generally last a long time and considering the popularity of FF14. I'd expect it to be around for as long as WoW. Even FF11 is still going. I think for them to end FF14 after 6.0 would be very premature. I could only see that being an actuality if SE felt the game was being held back too much by old systems (which arguably it is) In which case yeah. It would be simpler for them to build a new game from scratch to serve as a sequel to FF14.I think it will depend a lot on how much life is left in the game. Yoshida said when Stormblood launched that he'd need at least another two expansions to finish telling the story of the game, so if the game isn't ending with the 6.0 sotryline, then I would agree. If it's not, however, I would also think it's just as likely, if not more so, for them to just make the race complete in the next mmo they launch.
I'd be perfectly happy with a totally new game though. For me personally. There're a number of things about FF14 that have become very stale and overdone. I feel these things are pushing me away from the game currently...but that could just be the fact we're currently in a dry spell for new content due to the pandemic. Hopefully this next patch will reinvigorate my desire to play regularly again.

MMO's are cash cows, this game will not go anywhere if it keeps making money. Though I would not be surprised if the game gets less of a budget for game development and more of a budget for marketing.

Very much so. I wouldn't be surprised if once the popularity and easy money dies down. That they will then start implementing all these things people are requesting (including male Viera). Looking at older MMO's it always seems to be the case that the more "difficult" or nuanced requests get implemented once the game has reached it's later years and the playerbase has dropped to mostly fans of the franchise and what not.

I didn't mean that it would drop off the planet entirely, but more that they just don't give it the regular content updates anymore.I feel the game will continue on for far longer than 6.0. I could see it being a thing considering it's been on consoles ever since 2.0 and now that it's potentially going onto its third generation of consoles, it wouldn't be surprising if they wanted to update the game past PS3 era visuals, not to mention I could see them eager to abandon all of the code created for 1.0 that has held them back. Or it could just be that once Yoshida finishes telling the story that he had planned when Heavensward was over and Stormblood started that he either continues to tell more story, or passes the director role onto someone else. That's why I was saying that it's possible, but not certain, that they would move on to a new MMO after the 6.0 story concludes. Think of it compared to FFXI which had 5 expansion packs, the 6.0 could be argued to be the fifth expansion to the game, though they might go one more past that if you consider the revamped 2.0 to be less of an expansion.

I think I'd actually prefer less frequent updates. Provided those updates be polished, in depth content. I feel like a new patch every few months has never been a sustainable goal. It was needed back in 2.0 to help rebuild the game. But now I feel it's a detriment because they would rather focus quantity over quality. Eureka is a prime example of this or the fact the current new races can't have all hairstyles/headgear. In fact I feel the entire gender lock is because of this.I didn't mean that it would drop off the planet entirely, but more that they just don't give it the regular content updates anymore.

I see what you're saying. Only time will tell. But in such a case I guess they could always release male Viera outside of an expansion. However I feel if we are going to get them then 6.0 would be the best time to do that.
Yeah I doubt we would just get them (and female Hrothgars) in a normal patch. If we get them it will be for a new expansion. My prediction: If we dont get them with 6.0 we wont get them at all. (Of course Corona can change this all up) With each new expansion there are thousands of new items. I doubt they would take the work and money to included them if we go much further because that would question if they ever get that money back.

This would be my assumption as well. If theyre not revealed around or prior to 6.0, then were probably not getting them. That being said, There are some upsides to consider:Yeah I doubt we would just get them (and female Hrothgars) in a normal patch. If we get them it will be for a new expansion. 1) The development cycle seems to be slowing down but its not being explained why. I dont mean what with corona and all, but I mean they scaled back on providing dungeons among other things. Even the Nier raids arent generating completely brand new assets from scratch and would free up some development resources. Some of it is probably imported, and the design process is also easier since they have pre-existing IP content to work from. While I wouldnt hold my breath, I honestly do have some optimism that they are working on either completely fixing Viera/Hrothgar OR implementing the off sexes. It would help explain where some of the development time was going.
2) Relic weapons deal with the Hrothgar homeland a lot it seems - Its gonna seem incredibly weird if we keep doing flashbacks and other aspects of it that has zero depictions or interactions with female hrothgar. We kinda got Viera a bit on reveal cause of the Orbonne raids, It doesnt seem to far fetched that they might do a soft reveal that way.
3) Character creation set up is structurally weird. Best way I can describe it is that they purposefully created two separate race categories for Viera and Hrothgar with 'empty' spots for the off sexes. This seems a bit off of a choice from a purely design and aesthetic Point of View. The race selection and the like is merely an organization listing, so they couldve very easily stuck Hrothgar and Viera in the same 'spot' on the list, filling out the male and female roles respectively for a racial selection, to make it clean and organized. Might be a stretch, but possibly they left it as is to give themselves options.
4) Viera were implemented due to 'fan demand'. So long as the off sex demand remains high, it wouldnt be off for them to consider devoting time and energy towards that.
5) There's a lot of lore room they can exploit and explore by creating hte off sexes, which generate interest in the game. It would probably boost sales and pay for itself in time too.
So I remain optimistic that they will come. Ill keep fingers crossed. But if not, well, still got my lalafell here to be happy with. :>
