Did they ever promise that though? I've asked before for a source on this and am never given one (usually just hearsay, or "it was implied!"). I only ask for a source because stating someone promised something when they never did is spreading misinformation. No sir. Having been a player from the 1.0 era, there was a time when no gender restriction was a promise going forward in this game, a promise i and many others believed in it's the reason i and many others have and still champion this game wholeheartedly. Forgetting that such passion and dedication is what saved this game and propelled it to the prominence it has garnered is arrogant at least, insulting at worst.

So where is it being promised in what you linked? I don't see it included in the live letter translation (only that they considered certain race/gender combos "must haves" to be added and those combos did get added). That doesn't constitute a promise that there will be no gender restrictions in the future. No sir. Unfortunately, I don't speak Japanese so the video doesn't clarify anything in case there was something else said that wasn't included in the translation.
This is a problem game developers run into a lot with players. They say they have plans to do something, or at least would like to. Some players take those statements then twist them into meaning something very specific that wasn't being stated, then get upset because a "promise" (that was never made) was "broken" (can't break what didn't exist in the first place).
You need to widen that tunnel vision focus you got if you think the current team lacks passion and dedication.

Page 1200 milestone incoming.
Can't wait to see how much bigger this Endless Circle of a thread gets.
I think its not surprising that it cycles like that. I am not sure what more is there to discuss and at least it lets the thread stay active without being off topic.
(I also fully agree with your points about lore and other games. Heck even the Ivalice creator himself said that he was not the one stopping the inclusion of male vieras)
If you're that upset over something you were never promised, in a video game, you might need to take a step back. The fact that they're even considering making male viera, after they've stated in the past that they wouldn't, is clearly worth noting. They've also already apologized for the way it was presented. Holding a grudge over that is unhealthy. I'm sure some here will say I'm defending SE or being a white knight for them, but the reality is that the facts are there and choosing to ignore them is either willful ignorance or simply seeking a reason to be upset / offended.
I mean you can use that argument for like every content in the game and it does nothing for a discussion. A forum is here to discuss these things or should we all take a step back because its just a video game? The poster you quoted simply did not like that SE was not open with the gender lock until it was too late. Heck they got asked about male vieras after they revealed the females and instead of saying the truth they kind of gave unclear answers because they knew it would create anger which they did not want until the last fanfest was over. (Yoshida even said that they were ready for backlash but not the amount of it)
I am not the one you answered but I am sure that he is not sitting there hating the devs everyday (like a real grudge) but that its just one point against them. Nothing more nothing less. And too many points could be the reason someone stops paying for a product.

1200 pages! The hope is EVERLASTING!
Still support this! Male Viera / Female Hrothgar! Please![]()
We're not exactly getting any new information to discuss so it isn't too much of a surprise that the thread cycles through repetitive talking points. I don't expect an update on the status of male viera for a while yet and as the development team have stated already they may not actually be added at all.

At this point I feel it would be a silly move for them not to add them at some point down the line. I hope they will be added some day....I just hope I'm still playing the game by then.

I think it will depend a lot on how much life is left in the game. Yoshida said when Stormblood launched that he'd need at least another two expansions to finish telling the story of the game, so if the game isn't ending with the 6.0 sotryline, then I would agree. If it's not, however, I would also think it's just as likely, if not more so, for them to just make the race complete in the next mmo they launch.

Fun Fact: When I first started, I thought ERP stood for English Roleplay and didn't understand why people were so angry about it.
