I find issue with SE for not being up front about the exclusion of the missing genders during the announcement of said races.

The fact that they waited util the Jp fan fest to reveal this issue was damning in my eyes, and wont be forgotten. However that seems to be just my gripe.

What really seals the deal with these characters being unfinished, is the fact that even Mog Station purchased hairstyles are not usable (not even a notice as to said buy options are not compatible with Veira or Hrothgar, a year after release...), and Hrothgar need Fantasia to change even small aspects of their characters (limited jobs, limited races... Whats next?).

If you're that upset over something you were never promised, in a video game, you might need to take a step back. The fact that they're even considering making male viera, after they've stated in the past that they wouldn't, is clearly worth noting. They've also already apologized for the way it was presented. Holding a grudge over that is unhealthy. I'm sure some here will say I'm defending SE or being a white knight for them, but the reality is that the facts are there and choosing to ignore them is either willful ignorance or simply seeking a reason to be upset / offended.

While I agree the announcement could have been handled a lot better, its water under the bridge now. As for the customisation options, i think that they are aware of the issue, but such a change, for example fixing the Hrothgar is either not possible, or will be done with an expansion launch. My personal thought is that they fully intend to both fix and add the missing genders and that they will likely do both simultaneously. Why would you amend something, only to have to go back in and do it again for adding the new gender?

Square Enix as a company are receptive and sensitive to player feedback. What i mean by that is that they listen and if it is something that can be fixed they will do their utmost to do it. The dev team have proven this time and time again. I think we need to just be patient. They are not going to do an update on anything until fanfest, it would be foolish of them to announce it now. Sadly we will have to wait longer given th cancellation but still, a few months is not likely to harm anyone.

But i dont share your opinion. Hrothgar and Viera missing a lot of customization and hairstyles .. i dont even speak of the genders.
So in my opinion Viera (female) and Hrothgar (male) are incomplete AND deserve the opposite gender.

Also SE ignores the topic and says "maybe" and "soon tm" without telling the simple thing : yes or no and in Liveletter they avoid all topics besides mechandise,
artworks, "mods are bad" and "we dont have a too less content, just stop playing our game....".

I like the game and respect the devs and SE but they dont need me to defend them just for the sake of defending. Give me an argument and we can discuss it ^^

They are, functionally, incomplete. Forget even the half sex thing. From the simple design perspective of not being able to wear many headwear, to limited functionality in making cosmetic changes without using a fantasia because of how they designed some aspects, Hrothgar and Viera are very much incomplete. Also, unless Im mistaken, this is even more so an issue because the devs openly stated that Viera was not the initial plan but went for it mid development because of fan demand. Which means that unlike having planned it worked out from the get go of a dev cycle for the xpac, they only had half the time and had to likely change gears from what they were working on. And before someone says "Well Fran-Orbonne Monastary-Raid stuff", it is easier for them to design a static character model than it is to make player customizable ones. So that does not mean that they were working this stuff out from the start.

Just because they told us "Oh yeah, youre gonna have limited options" on the race doesnt mean that theyre somehow complete. It just means the devs didnt finish and are launching something in an "Alpha" state. Functional, but severely lacking in comparison to what we already have from other races.

Yep, exactly. I love Hrothgar, but it still bugs me that I can't wear a BRD or RDM hat. Seriously, that should be a crime. lol

My main hope for the game at this point is for there to be a complete overhaul of the character creation system. It's sorely needed and the game's main competitor has done as much already and is due to add more customisation options over time. It'd help future proof FFXIV as well.

Im down for there being more customization. I want my potato to have six pack abs and sculpted arms. Itll look terrible, but I want it! But sillyness aside, yeah you could argue that theyre incomplete and that there is some questionable design choices, but thats not saying much. We're talking about minor cosmetic changes (Physique) vs Major ones (accessibility to changing hairstyles, as an example) and the inability to wear many headwear without providing some kind of trade off. Even initially it took the devs overtime to give us something, and they did it behind YoshiP's back. The biggest issue being time constraints.

I am on board though wtih overhauling character creator. While we may not get to manipulate the body for limb and torso stuff like you can do with other games, Surface level sliders (like muscle physique, more faces, more eye styles, more facial and body hair options, multiple facial tattoos, hell even body tattoos) is well within their ability.

Forgetting that such passion and dedication is what saved this game and propelled it to the prominence it has garnered is arrogant at least, insulting at worst.

Having been a player from the 1.0 era, there was a time when no gender restriction was a promise going forward in this game, a promise i and many others believed in it's the reason i and many others have and still champion this game wholeheartedly. Forgetting that such passion and dedication is what saved this game and propelled it to the prominence it has garnered is arrogant at least, insulting at worst.
