I think you misunderstand how the data is stored/accessed.

10 separate characters are a non issue since it only loads one at a time. Kinda like playing one game on a PC at a time vs opening say 3 or 4 copies of Ff at once. It’s a different workload on resources than just raw storage space.

I'd rather that not go that route as I'm rather cheap (and have concerns about it being p2w under the pretense of glamour being the real endgame), but with that said, it is certainly possible. And I do think that if they do decide to sell it then 5 plates and 200 additional slots would be fair for 2$ a month.

That said I think it would be better to have 30 free plates first (1 for each class and some left over) and upgrade that number to account for later Jobs, while targeting paid upgrade to those that prefer to change up glams for the same job constantly.

It would be nice at the very least if there could just be 1 plate per gear set you have unlocked. I think the current is something like...35? 40? Something like that.

But I get it, glamour is not connected to progression so it’s total fluff. It’s all in the player base’s collective heads. This I would expect mogstation unlockables.

Honestly, I think these kinds of things should just be a pay-per-month upgrade like retainers. If the data is so taxing on the system, then just have players pay for the storage system via Mog Station. A retainer adds roughly what, 150 slots for a buck. If a buck could get you, I dunno, 10 plates per month that's not bad.

Personally, I don't need more than 1 or 2 for most jobs. Maybe 5-6 for my mains?

Because paying money doesn't solve the issue of how it's "taxing the system". You're talking about information that needs to be communicated between the server and your client every time you open up the glamour interface. The more information getting shared, the longer things take to load.

Right now the load delay almost isn't noticeable because it's only information for 15 plates (usually it's only noticeable if I'm standing in a housing ward when I go to change my glamour). Imagine how much worse it would be with 10 times that number of plates.

What would be nice is if a copy of our glamour plates could be saved to our local clients once edits are confirmed in an inn room at the glamour dresser. That could potentially open the door to more plates (you'd only get the additional load lag if you're in the inn room, not a big deal). That would allow us to select a plate from any location in the game (possibly not instances) since the only communication would be the client notifying the servers what was selected instead of the servers having to send all the options to our client to be chosen. But I imagine that would open the door to other problems, especially if players started modding the saved glamour plates directly on the local client.

It could work just increasing the number of plates (25 total maybe) and add per plate a list of all your unlocked jobs with a toggle checkbox so, when you change to that job (and are on a plate changing capable area) triggers that glamour plate as default for that job (obviously being just being abble a job to be checked on one plate)

If enough people want X and there’s money to be made selling X, it’s common sense business to upgrade X and make it even more sellable.

The last wave of wards (actually might have been the ones pre storm blood) were funded by mogstation purchases. So not really seeing your point unless you honestly believe they wouldn’t try to improve on the tech of what could be a source of easy revenue.

I don't know if it would even be possible, but would it help if you had to unlock more plates and slots in the dresser first?

Like with every job you unlock, you get one more plate. And you could do a simple quest to unlock more plates or slots. Maybe gate it behind the expansions, so you can get more slots when you reach Ishgard, then more in Kugane, then more in the Crystarium.

The more jobs you play, the more plates and slots you need, and the farther you are in the game the more glamour options you have, so to not strain the server too much, you don't have all those slots by default, but can unlock them when you need them.

But would that even work? Does it even matter for the server if you have more plates/slots unlocked or not?

There's a difference between literally buying additional servers to host more housing wards, and fixing an underlying issue in the code that is preventing a certain feature from working, especially if those issues are integral to the game.
The former is literally a case of more money = more servers, the latter could range from anywhere between "a few hours of debugging" to "completely redesigning the entire game from scratch" and only SE know where on that spectrum this issue lies.

My wishlist for the glam chest:
- As many glam plates as we have gearsets
- Be able to change glams anywhere not just cities (even in combat)
- Ability to macro glam plates
- glam dresser furnishing for housing

As for the server load perhaps they could split the plates into “pages” so it only has to load like 10 plates per “page” at a time. So then you could have, say, a “tank page” with plates for your tanks and when you play as your tanks you’d just have the tank page loaded then when you want to switch to healer you’d go to your glam plates (could also maybe make it a macro/text command) and switch to your “healer page” and it would only have to load the 10 plates on that page.

tbh i just want 1 for each job + 1 for gather /1 for craft and extra 3-4 for special occasion glamors
