It depends. All tanks have AoE, and ranged and casters have AoE available if synced. The only time it might not be a good idea is if both of your dps are melee and/or 15-17 casters/ranged, but even then the tank's AoE is strong enough on its own to make it worth doing if the tank is the only one with AoE. For Sastasha and Tam Tara specifically, I usually strike a balance and do 2 groups at a time so as not to traumatize any newbies, particularly the healer.

Leveling a healer has given me a new perspective in the game. Since my main is RDM/BLM only seem FFXIV from a DPS perspective thus far.

But as a healer, I can now understand why some people say the general player base is, how shall we say, lacking in a lot of areas.

And that’s not a flame, just an observation. I myself am a very average player. But running dungeons as AST It does get frustrating when DPS never moves out of bad stuff and eats every AOE. It’s one thing if it’s a low level dungeon where people are still learning, but I’ve experienced this is in like level 70+ dungeons and trials. Anyway, just had to share. For the record I’ve also experienced some great groups as well, and for those groups, my mana thanks you.

Had one hell of a World of Darkness run yesterday.

So this run starts off with a 1/1 duty finder pop, meaning at least 1 person had quit the raid. "Oh this is gonna be good," I think to myself, unaware of the horrors to come.

When I join the raid, I see that I am in a party of 4 DPS and 1 tank. That means we still needed to find another DPS and two healers just for party C, but it gets better yet. B was lacking both a tank and a healer, A was missing like 2 people themselves that I can't remember.

"what the fuck happened here," I ask myself (and chat). At first I assumed it was the usual "Died to cerberus and everyone ragequit" fiasco, but nah son. I hop into the wormhole, and I see...

...the first boss, staring right at us. Apparently, the tank in my party was new to the raid and didn't understand the mechanics all that well, which is fair, be nice to sprouts n'd all. But also, one of the healers in B was a total flame machine and endlessly complained about both the next replacement healer and how he had to carry the raid.

When we actually find the rest of the alliance like 15 minutes of waiting later, we kick off the boss and it doesn't go particularly well. Nobody is killing hourglasses, people eating doom left and right... I'd like to claim I fared better, but I whiffed one of the doom cleanses myself. After that, however, is when the real fun began for me. Because nobody was killing hourglasses, every time I got res'd I either instantly got popped by an AoE since the healer didn't top me up in time or got stuck on the beam of light that way. I floortanked that entire fight and died like 4 times on it, which is not one of my finer moments.

Then comes 5 Headed Dragon, and I think the healers didn't trust me anymore because halfway through the fight I started to bleed health and nobody was topping me up. I kept myself going a little longer because of bloodlust and second wind, but by around 30% I went down and nobody felt like ressing me. Can't say I don't deserve it after eating all those deaths earlier. Still, this fight goes mostly smoothly and-

    Oh, right, Cerberus.

So, shockingly, we actually didn't wipe on Cerberus, but it was still a shitshow. A wasn't killing adds, half the alliance went inside the belly and I floortanked again right when I wanted to get the chains. Oh, also, at one point A tank joined B inside the belly so all the adds started to swarm C and it was kind of funny but also painful. I think we had about 7 people taking a nap on the floor by the time Cerberus was done, but at least I got a res this time.

Cloud of Darkness was also all kinds of hilarious. Because everyone was so paranoid at us having fucked up mechanics before, once cloud started to give us the big succ, literally everyone disengaged and started to kill the dark voids. I've never seen all 24 men of the alliance scramble to kill the clouds for fear of a party wipe before then. Since I was playing sam and stuff died faster than I could hit it, I just went back to wailing on CoD. Near the tail end of the fight, at around 15% of cloud, half the alliance suddenly fucking died though. Apparently people forgot to stand in one of the comets, so only the people inside of one actually lived, which was about 10 guys with one healer between the lot. Best part is that cloud began to give us all the big succ again, so since it wasn't feasible to res 14 guys off the floor, it became this butt-clenching DPS race as we stuggled to not wipe on fucking cloud of darkness of all bosses. We somehow made it through the skin of our teeth, but had we stalled a minute longer we'd have to do the whole fight alllll over again.

My highlight is that I somehow managed to die to all four bosses, though. Not my finest moment, gentlemen. Not my finest moment.

Sastasha is like the only dungeon where AOEs is not required. It's a joke dungeon, and I hate to say that because Im sure the team put thier hearts into it, being that it's the introductory dungeon an all but honestly. You can clear it faster than the speed of sound lol, pull all mobs to the first boss, only need tier 1 to carry the tank, then repeat to the second/third boss. I go nuts in there all the time.

Yeah I tried being the nuker RDM too, groups weren't having it and I tried blackmailing too and saying I wont heal unless a BRD is invited. I know I don't have to explain how painful RDM main healing is, but every got darn time, I got a Galka PLD or even worse a crappy NIN, I wanted to Shadowlord myself. Eventually I sucked it up and just dealt with it. The SCH came out and I dropped RDM.

Signed a I dont have any jobs higher than my SCH87.

Yes XIV is a story game but it is also an MMO. I'd hazard a guess that most FF fans have already heard of XIV so the bulk of your new players are coming here for the MMO bits and thinking they're going to sit through a ton of dialog is not a good assumption.

May as well get used to actively ignoring his green icon. I forget the trigger (level 50, 100 comms, or both) but it turns on and won't turn off until you qualify for and accept mentor status.

That said, HoN isn't terrible but it falls far short of where it should be. At the very least people should run it for the gear and the ring.

As far as I know a fair number of classes don't have any aoes at all at that level lol
Makes bigger pulls feel real bad. Did it with two melee who had no aoe and it was terrible. Not hard obviously... but my god just one aoe would've made it so much more fun.

Ah, my first floor tanking as a Dragoon in Navel hard.

I pressed one of the jumping attacks.
Titan cast Weight of the Land underneath him right as I take off.
Of course I got stuck with animation lock as I landed.
    Of course I died.

Yet, I'm happy to finally live the DRG meme.

Yeah i know the names aren't masked but he allowed me to show it so it's fine, really... it just looks really hilarious and he knows what he did

And in THIS case it was a little late, but i also had a BLM in the Paperbird-Eden that me and my cohealer tried to rescue to safety and they ran back into danger and died every single time. Was early enough that they had time to run into danger
It's more the case of rescue sometimes working even when late (i had people slide across falling floors before) and sometimes not even if early because theres more and more people not trusting rescues. Problem being that late just doesn't work usually

I just felt bad for the BLM because i tried to be as late as possible but i can't show that one because i usually don't mask names

    Running into traffic is baaaaaaad
