    The difference is, all those classes play differently. Sure you could reduce any class in any game to just "you press buttons in a certain order then you win" but that's not really being fair is it. NIN and MNK play completely differently, despite being in the same role. Same for BLM and RDM, how they build and use their gauges is entirely different.

    The same cannot be said for healers, the better you are at any healer the more you're going to be spamming a single button, sometimes followed by a dot, and if things are REALLY CRAZY maybe then you'll stop and use a heal, then you go back to spamming a single button. That's the formula for all 3 healers, the only healer that has something kind of different is AST with it's card system, which breaks the monotony once every 30 seconds, and then with sleeve draw, once every 180 seconds, which is so convoluted it makes me want to jump off a cliff. Other than that small break, it's the same, but hey, it's better than the other two healers, I guess. So, do I want a 4th class that spams a single attack, a dot once every thirty seconds, and maybe, if we're lucky, it'll stop to heal just to break the monotony once in awhile? Not really. Id love nothing more than SE to make a 4th healer next expansion as well as making the current three all fun and unique again. However, I 100% doubt they will, in fact, I'm willing to place a wager they won't. My bet is on them not only adding a 4th healer, but having it be no different from the other 3, minus some gimmick, and all of them just spam a single button for 90% of their gameplay loop.

    As for tanks, don't play them, so I don't really have an opinion on them. However, I see a lot of them complaining about similar things as healers, namely, homogenization. From what I'm seeing GNB didn't do a whole lot to mask that.

    Once more, this applies every bit as much to healers as it does to the others.

    I've played multiple jobs in all three roles, and let me tell you, they do not play that different. Especially now that we're in ShB. The jobs are more alike in rotation and capabilities, and heh, if working on "balance" can be used as an excuse to not add new stuff, you can apply that every bit as much to DPS too.

    But people that 'main' those other roles want new toys to play with. Only some people think healers shouldn't be allowed this too.

    So why'd we need another tank that hits a 20% cooldown, a 30% cooldown, some kind of minor self heal, a progressive single target and aoe combo, etc etc?

    You're also not being fair to healers. SCH has a pet with a gauge that builds up, WHM has lilies and can build up into blood lilies, and so on.

    Not that I think current healer gameplay is great, but if you think BLM and RDM resources are the pinnacle of class distinction, I don't see how you can ignore the above class features either.

    I do think healer gameplay can be, and should be, greatly improved. But to cite those things as why it's OK to have new DPS jobs but twelve forbid healers get anything new - that's just flat out hypocrisy. Perhaps unintentional hypocrisy (if it can ever be intentional?), but all the same.

    But i have never said it wasn't the case, but we are in healers forum not tanks/dps. Imo we don't need new jobs at all if you really want my opinion until they find a way to really keep each identity for creating complementarity but the trend is to homogenize everything cause they are too lazy for really thinking about it. Or the main excuse is "but if we do this, one of the jobs won't be accepted during raids etc" if it's really well done it shouldn't be the case and every jobs would be useful in any situation.

    But it's not the subject of this forum.

    I play tanks a lot these days and I disagree.
    I mostly play DRK and GNB, and I don't find these to be all that similar at all. I realise each tank shares parts of it's kit with different other tanks, different parts overlap, but they don't all overlap with all other tanks.
    It's like having 10 different ingredients and building a dish out of a selection of 5 of those ingredients.
    Sure, if you have three different people making a dish out of those 10 ingredients, then someone is going to choose the same ingredient as someone else at some point. And if only one of those ingredients is meat, then chances are every dish is going to be based around that one ingredient.

    I cannot get on with WAR and PLD at all, I find some of their skills to be so clunky, or their rotation too dull, to deal with.
    If all tanks were the same, surely I'd be able to pick up any tank class and play it just as well as any other one.

    And I find healers to be much the same.
    Jumping from AST to SCH or vice versa isn't easy at all, it takes time to readjust to the jobs unique mechanics. While the similarities are there for a reason, damage is damage, and there's only so many ways you can heal or mitigate it.
    WHM is slightly different in that it is the defacto Easy mode healer, and doesn't take all that much to get used to playing after a break, and it has a mostly passive job gauge. I wouldn't say the tanks have this paradigm.

    I'd mean I'd accept it, but that's more because I'm running out of jobs to color code and glamour storage :P

    The thing is we kinda do need to balance the number and tanks and healers though, even if its just for aesthetic purposes

    Honestly everyone keeps suggesting to balance the healers... I'm a firm believer in unbalancing the jobs, balance is only really necessary in pvp which this game barely has... what's wrong with the jobs feeling powerful or the healing classes being op slightly? When you continuously try to balance the jobs it always leads to mind numbing over-simplification and boring gameplay. Just give the jobs their identities back

    I blame two factors. One being obsession with parses (particular to the point where people gamble with their lives and those of their teammates, by not avoiding damage) and teamcomp optimization (remember when one healer was was considered weaker then the other two?), and the other being people thinking that this is closer to other MMO when its clearly not (as the lack of overworld PVP, among others should attest). I also rather take a "everything is broken" or "perfect imbalance" approach.
