The system needs to be looked at, wether abolishing it or not is the answer I can't say.

But as it stands teleportation let's people skip the entire world, not something the new team will want to happen with the new 2.0 world I am assuming. I enjoy having a memorable journey to my destination.

I for one agree with making anima usable only from crystal to crystal, aswell as bringing back the port spells. Never was a taxi in 11 but i still like it because it gave people even more of a reason to be social and interact.

+1 vote for leaving it as is.

I still ride my chocobo, take the ferry, take an airship, and even actually run around Eorzea all the time.
I usually have close to 100 anima... but I love having it because it means I don't keep my friends waiting when we want to do something together.

Anima and the ability to teleport are completely within the power of players to choose how and when they use it.

If someone doesn't like teleporting, don't use it.

If someone doesn't like being able to teleport from everywhere, don't do it.

You know, I agree that anima doesn't seem to make any sense in the game world. It's like they wanted to make transportation easy, so they came up with a teleportation system. Realizing they had to explain it somehow, they just whipped up a random explanation and threw it in the game.

I'm not against quick transportation, but I wish it were a more organic part of the game. As it stands now, we open a menu, select a location, see a lame teleportation effect, hang around awkwardly for seven more seconds while the client loads the next area, disappear, and then reappear in a new area with another fairly lame effect.

This is just a random idea, but what if we have to walk to the aetheryte ourselves the first time. Upon reaching the aetheryte we take out a warp stone (key item), which pairs itself with the aetheryte. Later we can use the warp stone, which will open up a portal to the area we choose. Upon selecting our destination, the portal opens, and we can see through to the other side as we enter. Then we have a brief splash loading screen depicting the area we are about to enter. The area loads, we step out of the portal, and it closes behind us.

I'm not going to argue that that is exactly how teleportation should be done. There are a million ways to make it work. But we really need a system that feels like it's actually part of the world.

The devs also need to be careful about the role teleportation plays in 2.0. Ideally, we should feel like we're moving through the world. We wouldn't want a system where people warp just to move 30 feet away. Likewise, you don't want a system where you have to trudge slowly across boring maps just to do even the most mundane of content.

In this respect, XIV in its current state seems to be the worst of both worlds. The maps are boring, and there's very little reason to explore. So when I have enough anima, I end up warping everywhere. At times like this I'm not really in a world as much as I'm just switching out different backgrounds. When I'm low on anima then I walk or choco more. But with nothing to do or see along the way, and no progressive change in scenery, this is just a time sink.

The new maps look like they're going to make for a really compelling Eorzea, so I hope that, for the most part, getting where we're going involves traveling through it. Quick travel doesn't have to mean warping. But where warping does occur, it should be an organic part of the game world that doesn't feel out of place.

I like Anima. I see nothing wrong with it. You can't really exploit it and it helps a lot with what it can do. Teleport spells would detract from the number of skills WHM would have. Also: it'd be much more of an exploit.

You want to explore? By all means do so. I already explored everything when I got the gates activated. That's enough of that for me. Regardless, when 2.0 hits, there is nothing to guarantee us that our saved gates will even exist in the new map. I hope they're not, so that we do explore everything in its newer state.

Maybe with what's to come with 2.0's lore will have an effect on our ability to teleport's stability. Which would limit us?... Just speculation of course, but I'm apathetic to either. I use anima/choco/airships equally if I do say so myself so whatever happens... happens..

I'd like to see use of airship travel more. There are all those random "docks" that wouldn't be bad to fly to and from, and chocobo inbetweens the places I need to go.
