Viera guys will kill the Elezen population just like Hroths killed the Roe population lol

If they're designed to be conventionally attractive, classically handsome and well-built then they'll no doubt surpass the Elezen population by quite a bit. Elves are usually one of the most popular race picks in the MMO's that offer them. That it isn't the case with FFXIV is very much down to their odd proportions, stiff animations and limited customisation options.
I think the argument for cannibalisation may be a bit weaker come a new expansion. Although it did occur with Roes and also the non-Viera females, the figures just after release suggested a good portion of the new races were drawing from the influx of new players. Granted that may have changed later on, particularly as the limitations of the new races became apparent and the novelty effect wore off, but I believe that's why they will time male Viera and female Hrothgar with 6.0 if they do opt to add them in, so it can be used as a selling point. Fantasia sales to change race are also a form of profit for them either way.
If they're not willing to improve Elezen, it's the closest some people are going to get to a proper elven race in the game.

When the game's story becomes self-aware:
Roes wernt very popular to begin with from what I noticed, so a big fluffy bara beastman very easily took over.
I think even IF Male Viera come along, after the initial hype train things will even out and I think Viera males might even out and be on par with the Elves. Like Theo said, they are a popular race in any MMO
I'd play a male elezen in a heartbeat if it wouldn't be for their weird aesthetic. They just feel so stiff and the giraffe neck doesn't help eather.
I just hope male viera would fill up that gap for me. Tall, handsome and well built (boxerbodykind of matsunos vision) with proper proportions - just like their female counterpart.
Anyways if SE is going to release the missing genders, i'm sure they would do a wonderful job! I also hope Matsuno will be given the oppurtunity to design them according to his imagination.
Elezens are wierd cause if you compare their concept art to the models, the proportions dont match.I'd play a male elezen in a heartbeat if it wouldn't be for their weird aesthetic. They just feel so stiff and the giraffe neck doesn't help eather.

Did this quick and dirty comparison a while back:
But the point is if you match proportions by head lengths, the ingame model does not line up with the concept design stuff and I think could use a bit of overhauling. I do get that some poeple like them how they are, but I dunno. Maybe elezen would be more popular if these things were fixed. But unlikely to happen cause itd require adjusting all the armors in the game. Likely the same thing with lalafell - redesigning them would resolve a lot of the "lalafell are children and the game is gross cause of this" if they were redesigned to have a more typical dwarf-adult figure, but itd be to much work to realistically do at this point and itd end up pissing off people who like the little potatoes the way they are.
This is all a separate topic though. Im just hoping that they do give us the off sexes and that theyre pretty interesting.
I'm really not seeing the disconnect here. They're pretty close.Elezens are wierd cause if you compare their concept art to the models, the proportions dont match.

What?
The left is the in game model, right is modified. Theyre sized by head size - Meaning All of them are scaled to have the same headsize. You can clearly see that the in game model's body as a whole is physically larger than the production art, and the proportions are different (Length of torso, length of arms, length of legs, etc.)
That kind of looks like a Hynerian from Farscape
One of the problems I have with Elezen are their ears. They are like door stoppers, and the ear armor looks stupid as heck. I know we have cat girls, and cat guys, but the ear armor looks so DUMB. ON TOP of those proportions. Have you seen a male elezen in the ShB full dark knight set? It looks ridiculous.I'd play a male elezen in a heartbeat if it wouldn't be for their weird aesthetic. They squared her shoulders and then shortened her neck, all of which can be excused by the concept art striking a pose. Then they just shrunk her, particularly her torso. What?

This is a lot closer in posing, and the head, chin, shoulder, and bust line appears very similar. The only real big differences I see is the torso/leg length, and it's like....2 ilms in difference at most, and that still might be pose excusable. There's differences, but they aren't drastic.
