I think it's just people wanted the chemist aesthetic

They already said in an interview wayyy back that astrologian was chemist and they basically just reskinned it to fit the ishgard theme. Kind of makes the tarot cards thing a lot cooler thinking about it as getting random ingredients and working with them for different effects

and the cripple skill was probably originally akin to arm shot

and the stances were probably something cool like mixing powders or potions

astrologian is just a constant bummer lol

Astro, if this is the case, became so far removed from chemist to be entirely unrecognizable... and it fits closer to time mage than it ever did to chemist... even the Astros from the ARR quests wear very traditional looking time mage outfits (purple robes, purple sugarloaf hats with stars and moons on them) So that being the case, chemist can still be added independent of astro and still feel different.

As far as my reason for thinking this is the best job to add, though, like others were stating, it's the most commonly used healing job not in the game already for starters. And going back to Tactics, chemist was the starting job for every other healing job in the game. Every healer had to go through being a chemist to start with. It offers the potential to do something different from the three healers already in the game, and up until a year ago, I had made the argument that it would have let them create a healer that primarily uses TP as a resource instead of MP.
