They could implement a "Mentor Token" system. It would work in the same way as tomestones. You can trade "Mentor Token's" for items such as crafting materials, mentor mounts only, etc. To obtain these "Mentor Token's" you would have to receive commendations of course, as a mentor.

We don't need some kind of community limitation on it. Then it just becomes an exclusive and toxic popularity group.

If you see a mentor, listen to them, or don't. They could be wrong. You could be wrong. The day goes on.

Being the evil mentor that i am, thought i'll give my thoughts.

Lots of reasons why, for example i play SCH more than WHM so i can forget i have regen from time to time, just don't assume someone is doing it out of being passive aggressive.

I mean i wouldn't want to put my SC on cooldown before the next trash pull.

Sometimes i forget where i am or who i'm with, but its no biggie unless they are doing something to let me die.

These are bad examples, however there a bad mentors out there for sure but i feel its a over exaggerated meme at this point and lumps in mentors who don't sugercoat or mollycoddle bad players.

I've been called a awful toxic mentor and Great mentor, it really depends on how both parties interact. If you mess something up what i feel needs to be corrected i will say and if you try and sort stuff out and engage nothing but positive waves from me, In contrast if your a hostile I'm gonna be hostile back.

The feeling of helping people through stuff they had a hard time with is one of the best this game can provide. I remember having 3 sprouts in Hullbreaker normal, it took an hour and a lot of wipes but we made it I had a big warm fuzzy feeling afterwards.

I kind of like having a Watering Can rather than the crown tbh, would make being a mentor less fashionable and is a better solution than a curated mentor system as i feel that would lead to too few mentors.

Most common question in NN is still "where do I get my chocobo?" so I don't think tying mentor status to savage has any use.

I do feel like they should have something to make mentor roulettes more rewarding for mentors outside of the achievements and possible first time bonuses because having to burn 30+ minutes in an extreme trial explaining mechanics then not getting so much as a single commendation for it is rather vexing.

Once you do actually finish all of the achievements there's little reason to bother with it anymore at all.

Ex trials should simply be removed from the roulette imo. Putting aside the fact that we'll be getting more and more outdated extremes and more and more mentors that won't know them synched, what the roulette really needs is a more consistent time commitment window. I don't want to sign up for what is essentially a lottery. You could get anything from a 2mn run to a 60mn run. Say you have an hour and want to spend it helping people out in the mentor roulette, cool. You get a couple guildhests, a dungeon, then what? You're 20mn in and need to stop because you can't commit to that potential ex run that you might draw. It's really detrimental to the system.
I would personally run the mentor roulette a lot if it weren't for the ex trials (I never run them currently). Instead, if I feel like helping people raid I just join learning parties in PF and when it comes to dungeons I don't have much in the way of options to pair me up with people that may need my assistance so I just don't do anything.

I feel more rewards is entirely the wrong direction. If anything there should be none, the crown downgraded, the mentor mount moved to something else and EX trials removed from mentor roulette.

Being a mentor should be something you choose to do because you want to help new players, not to farm a reward.

As a mentor this is my stance as well, I don't run it because EX content is in the roulette. Because some fights have lots of mechanics that need to be explained and some people simply don't want to listen.

And in that content, synced, 1 player messing up can and will cause a wipe.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

I would also be totally in favor of just removing the EX trials from mentor roulette because it makes it more trouble then it's worth.

If people want to run them, party finder is a much more effective means of doing so.
