Because people remember bad experiences more than good ones? They attach emotions to them and feel personally attacked.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

Anecdotal evidence. Anecdotal evidence eeeeeeeeeverywheeeeeeeeere.....
That's why there is never any resolution to these threads, because that's all either side has to argue with. So they just go around and around, like a dog chasing its tail, until everyone gets bored after a few days/weeks and it peters out. Only to crop back up again a few weeks later when someone has a new anecdote to share.
And to answer your question, it's because this is the internet and complaining is basically an Olympic sport here.

Standard answer, nothing new.
Probably all of these mentors had bad days, yep.
We have already proposed many constructive changes here. I want a working blacklist so that everyone I send there will never get caught in roulette with me.Anecdotal evidence. Anecdotal evidence eeeeeeeeeverywheeeeeeeeere.....

Everything remains the same, because people are used to the fact that complaints exist for the sake of complaints, not for the sake of results.
And of course, mentors will always be against any changes. This is non-negotiable.
Knauleche seikis no man

Just the day before yesterday, my friend and I explained to newcomers the tactics of Cinder Drift. Nothing terrible happened, although Monk (not a beginner) pulled the boss from impatience. I do not consider the answer "no" offensive, I just keep on running.Every time I ask someone if they would like a bit of advice on their class they just say "no". I've stopped altogether. If they want advice they can reach out. Every now and then there's someone who's brand new to the game who'll take it in without reaching out first but those cases are pretty rare. When it comes to mechanics it's a mixed bag, most people listen but there's always that one person in the group that just yolo pulls the boss before I'm even done explaining.
On the flip side, the bad mentors I've seen can be counted on a single hand, in my 4 years. One could think my standards may be low but the reality is that 95% of the time they just run content silently.
Each time a similar topic arises, you come and write the same comments. You probably like it. If you look at the beginning of this thread, you will see real offers from real people there. Nothing funny at all.So they just go around and around, like a dog chasing its tail, until everyone gets bored after a few days/weeks and it peters out. It's a mix of survivor bias, anecdotal evidence (on everyone's part, including myself here even though I have been keeping tabs) and probably misplaced expectations. There aren't more jerks among mentors than in the general population. Ratios are going to be similar and as such anyone complaining about a majority of mentors being bad is clearly not making an objective representation of the field and needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
When it comes to expectations, so many people come into the forums and complain about mentors playing poorly or not knowing the answers to questions. As if a mentor can't learn a new class and tunnel vision, and/or must know everything. You can mix in a bit of mentors dropping ex fights in mentor roulette to the mix as well (which imo is one of the bigger issues, but doesn't necessarily reflect how good/bad such mentors are). So of course if some people's expectations are way up there they're going to get upset at every corner.
I'm all for changing the mentor icon and removing whatever rewards. If only to demonstrate that it won't change much for many.

That's irrelevant. The first thing listed under "what is a mentor" in SE's blog about the program is that a mentor is an exemplar of player etiquette.
In other words, if you're going to be a mentor you can't be a jerk. Feel the need to be a jerk? Don't wear the crown - other players won't know that you're a mentor unless you're doing it in Novice Network where mentors are listed separately from the new/returning players. Better yet, don't bother applying to be a mentor at all and then it's a non-issue.
Most people get that mentors don't know everything. All they want is for those who are mentors to be helpful when they can - and to not be a jerk when they can't. Too many mentors are not helpful and definitely are jerks, which ruins the system and causes problems for those trying to use it correctly.
Oh boy the same two people once again talking in yet another mentor thread... If I were you guys I would stop answering to them, they have a habit of not listening to the other side. Last thread didn't go well and this one wont either..

The last time we had a very pleasant conversation, and judging by the fact that you write in each topic again, no one banned you, although we had disagreements.Oh boy the same two people once again talking in yet another mentor thread... If I were you guys I would stop answering to them, they have a habit of getting people banned who don't agree with them. Last thread didn't go well and this one wont either.. Good mentors just don't exists period.
I had good chat with you, can't agree on the other one, he is the one calling me names and pointing finger at me. But I did in fact get banned, not for long (can't remember how long, like 15 days i guess). But can't really know why would I get banned for only pointing out my view hm?

As you know, I cannot know about the actions of the moderators and I am not responsible for them. Too bad this happened. All that interests me in this thread is the changes that the players offer here, and these suggestions partially coincide with what I suggested in other threads. The trouble is that we still have a non-working system and a non-working black list. If they worked as intended, these complaints would not be.I had good chat with you, can't agree on the other one, he is the one calling me names and pointing finger at me.
