And now you're treating me like a noob. No, didn't skip anything, but I think I'm still entitled to play the game the way I want. Also you have a Dragoon Lv 80 so you can't be exactly a new player, unless you bought the level up pack from the shop which is never a good idea because it won't prepare you how to actually play the game, skipping all the tutorial steps. In this case, if you haven't already, I would suggest that you go and visit the beginner arena "hall of novice", you can find it at any starting city near the guest rooms. I'm sorry if I misunderstood you, but your first words were literally "New player".
Yes and no. FF14 is a multiplayer-game and a dungeon needs you to cooperate with at least 3 other players. So you have to work together and do your best to beat that dungeon. To ensure this, you have a task to do defined by your job-role - so no, you can't just play how you want, you have to play in the best interest of your group. And they may kick you, if you don't.

By playing slower, I don't think I'm endangering the group as a whole. If people want to speed run, they can create pre-mades with their friends and faceroll the whole thing.I'm sorry if I misunderstood you, but your first words were literally "New player".

I don't buy at all what you're saying.

Hmm... I understand both points of views here. You want to play slower and take your time, while they want to get in and get out like the majority of the people playing this game. Neither side has the wrong opinion and you also can create a pre-made with your friends and slow roll if you wanted as well. Or if you're in the ShB dungeons use the Trust system. Also, reporting them isn't going to do anything unless they were harassing you and calling you names. Difference of play style is an acceptable reason to kick someone too so *shrug* not much you can do except try again. Make sure you mention at the very beginning of the run you're a new tank and want to go slower while you're learning. You may also want to pick a different tank class while learning to tank first. Gladiator/Paladin is my usual suggestion as it's straight forward and starts at level 1 so you can learn how to run dungeons from the very beginning. Good luck!

I have been tanking from the very beginning, and I can say this. Tanking then is VERY different then tanking now. Back then it was all about holding agro and heals keeping up. DPS peeled hate in large pulls it could go bad very quickly. Enter Stormblood and ShB the tanking pulls REALLY started to get crazy. Wall to wall pulls and oddly enough you really didn't die and you still held hate fairly well if the DPS used diversion. Shadowbringers has really just adopted this way of pulling in dungeons and ran with it.
I for one actually like it more then the way that it was back in ARR and HW days where you really had to tip toe through dungeons and not pull to much or risk wiping.
I have also tanked in WoW for 6-7 years (Vanilla, BC, WotLK, and Cata) so I understand where your coming from. Cata in particular had a HUGE change in dungeon mechanics, in where you had to do EACH and EVERY single encounter just the right way. And it got ANNOYING as time went on. Which burnt me out....and now I live in FFXIV.
I would say just humor the group your with and ask them what you should do. Nobody should harass anyone, but I would think the exact same thing if your a GNB as you should know already how dungeons are pretty much expected to be pulled now. I wouldn't harass you, but if I was on my astro healer...I would say pull the world please![]()
You are entitled to play the game the way you want only to the extent you don't think the other 3 people are entitled to play the game how they want, when the two preferences come into conflict as per your example.
And why are you tanking for the first time at level 60 if you were worried about your inexperience? Even DRK would let you wade in by comparison.
I’m actually a tad worried about this going forward if we get a new tank or healer, jobs that might start at highe levels and thus start at a more difficult starting point for that role. You are entitled to play the game the way you want only to the extent you don't think the other 3 people are entitled to play the game how they want, when the two preferences come into conflict as per your example.

Yes we can see/feel that Tanking/Healing is stupid easy but a first time Tank/Healer in that DF level? What about the next one if they start at 60?
GNB and DNC start at 60. The next expansions additions would most likely start at 70.I’m actually a tad worried about this going forward if we get a new tank or healer, jobs that might start at highe levels and thus start at a more difficult starting point for that role.

BTW we already have people starting their very first job at 70 on any role and trying Holminster Switch as their first dungeon without any prior experience of party content thanks to jump potions. The stories I've read don't paint the prettiest of pictures of how well it works out. I believe the game just plops you in with no tutorial whatsoever but I'm not entirely sure as I have never seen what exactly happens when you use one.
Doi. Half asleep when I made that post.GNB and DNC start at 60. The next expansions additions would most likely start at 70.

Hopefully we'll eventually see systems requiring completion of X content, of at least half the level of whatever role-based task they'd be going into for the first time.I’m actually a tad worried about this going forward if we get a new tank or healer, jobs that might start at highe levels and thus start at a more difficult starting point for that role.
