Then it sounds like this conversation is good and done. Lol, Moving on.

However, even if we don't get some sort of story-related reason, I'd still like to see male viera as a playable character.

The warrior of light is a really unique character that doesn't follow social norms, and we play under the assumption that we, the player, are the main character. Just like there are very few male miqo'te in lore, the same can be done for male viera. Other players are just random adventurer's in your story and their race is irrelevant. Even if male viera are elusive in lore, you are the one unique male viera who is the warrior of light in your story.
Id still love a Story-Related reason to put them in the game. Its up to SE/Yoshi-p and team if/how they wanna write them in, but I think alot of people who are opposed to Male Viera would jump on board if they too saw a good Lore-reason for the Male Viera to suddenly join the fight and leave the Forest. So as much as many people don't care and think its irrelevant, and Bring up the Miqote, I think Male Vieras getting Lore that makes sense and ties them to coming out of hiding would benefit them because it would also Convince any/everybody against them being in the game, to turn around and support it.
At least the people who care a little to much about a Races Lore. And like good writing to expand the universe they are invested in.
