Is it me or is the Crafting market going to die?

'Materia can now be extracted from fully spiritbound gear without losing the original item. Furthermore, materia can be melded to gear regardless of crafter class.'

Is it just me or wasn't a large part of the crafting market crafting gear people would need to buy to replace gear lost from claiming their Materia, this will also affect te Gathering market as well due to obvious reasons.

Even though it may take some time to happen, I fear that eventually the Market will jsut be full of food, potions, tonics and etc HQ one use items. While there will likely still be a demand for items here and there, there will be huge battles to sell crafted items that people will no longer need. I am currently working on getting all my DOH and DOL jobs to 80 and there's already signs of there being an overabundance of certain items that don't seem to be selling .

For example, while lvling a smith job, I've been making 1 of each item for the crafting log, in one case a piece of amour has multiple listings with vastly dropping prices. Usually someone would buy the item, spiritbond it, scrap it for materia, sell the materia and buy a replacement (Generally speaking). But now you just need to buy it strip it keep using it and then buy the next level up when you get to it. So eventually nobody will ever buy that armour again as everyone levels to and beyond the armour and etc.

So then the owners of that item will have to delist it 'cause it wont sell and then at best desynth it or sell it to a vendor for a loss (in terms of time and effort put into gathering and crafting/buying matts).

FFXIV is definitely going the wrong way, the more ismple it ecomes, the easier it is for everyone to do everyhting and get whatever they want without effort and etc....the less appelaing it is. At some point the economy will be pretty dire.

I am getting pretty concerned with how FFXIV is becomming a game more for casual play. Everything is becoming overly simplified and I fear the loss of any kind of challenge, where thigns are just handed to you with minimum effort. Just sink several mindless hours into something and you recieve a reward, as opposed to, use your mind/skill to triumph over this challenge and then recive your reward. Luckily it's not -that- bad yet, but each update seems to have little things that make me worry.

    Just my opinion of course.

Honestly I don't think many people kept buying new sets of gear because they converted the old one every time they reached 100%. Materia was fairly cheap before the Extract feature due to the insane amount of scrips we get from collectible turn ins and a lot of gear crashed in price due to how easy crafting is.

Materia is pretty much a dying market, along with most crafted items. But on the other hand inflation is significantly down, everything is cheap and even if you make gil slower nowadays it still gets you just as far. The economy itself isn't too bad. I suspect what's considered "rich" in terms of gil total will end up lowering over time.

I do agree it's over simplified now and that makes it less appealing. I mean just look at this section, we filled over 15 full pages of discussion and theorycrafting within 10 days when Expert Recipes were active, just for a title. Now, it's just dead empty topics, Relics no one needs and no one cares again. Nothing feels special to obtain. But I feel I'm beating a dead horse there and don't want to be the one constantly grumbling, so I'll say no more on that.

I was only converting on low level gear that was easy to replace because that was the only source for low level materia. I wouldn't buy the gear from others, I'd make it myself so I wasn't adding to the market.

I doubt anyone was buying high level gear to spiritbond and convert for a random materia when the cost of the gear would usually be about the same or more than the value of the materia received. It's been too easy to farm scrip to buy the higher grade materia directly.

The gear market serves the same people it has always served - those who want the crafted items but don't want to make it themselves or don't have the correct class leveled to make it. A lot of players hate scrip farming for their gear so they're happy to buy from others.

There will be some changes to the gear market but I doubt it's going to crash or disappear altogether. There are enough players who want the items but are too lazy to make it themselves that there will always be buyers.

Expert recipes gave life to this section on the forums while it was still alive. Now that it’s gone, this section is dead again. That should tell the dev team a whole lot about what they are doing wrong, and how they can fix it.

I just don’t think they care, honestly. Imagine if expert recipe mechanics were present in a master book. This section would be flooded with activity.

After obtaining some battle relics, the relics replaced some of the i480 weapons (unused, not yet spirit bonded) that I crafted for my jobs. So I put them onto the market... only to find that they were outrageously cheap... I mean, seriously, 69,000 gil for an i480 endgame weapon? Sweet Jesus. They're practically worthless! I knew the prices are low, but I was still expecting something over 100K, ya know?

Is the crafting market going to die? I dunno. But I'm positive that the demand is low and supply is high!

Too many crafters and bots flooding the MB at this stage of the game. Once 4.3 hits it will be time to make money again... for like two weeks until the bot makers update their scripts and the people who focused on the story and other content first finish up and move onto crafting.

While bots are certainly a big problem SE seemingly refuses to do anything about. The fact crafting has become so bad dead easy now hurt the MB even more. Even in Stormblood, prices didn't fall below 100k until near the end of odd numbered patches.

Well let's see, the new relics are i485 and have 5 materia slots open making them effortless to meld. They are also really easy to get. I have one for all my 80 jobs at this point. Why would anyone be interested in the crafted gear?

Caimie, I have never seen the high end crafted gear market crash so quickly as in 5.x.

That said, I'm a lazy crafter. Once top end crafted gear fell under 150K / piece I gave up making it for sale, just for friends and FC members. Even so I have more gil now than when I was selling Rakshasa gear regularly. Its not that I have found other profitable crafts or am even selling lots of gathered items.

It isn't just the weapons, its the armor and accessories too.

If I may ask, what is wrong with this happening? Shouldn't the game be more accessible to others so that everyone can enjoy end-game content? Why should you be the one to dictate who gets gear and who gets to play end-game content? You don't really need money in this game but it's still very easy to make it as a crafter. I re-subbed a few weeks 5.2 hit and gear was still selling at around 500k a piece, I dumped the price on most items to around 100k and I was still making a huge profit. I was still making a profit until the relic patch hit and now I'm back to making food 24/7.

There are so many ways for crafters to make money that I don't get what your complaint is about. Make end-game food, it sells almost instantly. Making items for levequest turn-ins, make gear for levels 1-60 for people gearing up or gearing their retainers. Just got to the marketboard and list things by demand. Go to marketboard history and see how quickly items are selling.

I've popped in and out of the game for years and crafting has never been a difficult way to make money. Hell, with Neo-Ish gear I was even having other crafters buying my gear so they could re-list it at a higher price.
