The point was that, right now, there is absolutely nothing to suggest that whatever resources were diverted from this game to FF7R (if any) are going to be brought back any time soon.

I didn't quote the rest of your post because it didn't matter. Part 2 is already in development, ergo work on FF7R is continuing, regardless of however the more vocal/disgruntled people might feel about part 1, or whatever the projected future sales of part 2 end up being.

many people are buying the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" because that's that they think it is, a remake. Once they play the game, they will know it is NOT a remake, but rather a kingdom hearts'esque sequel that seeks to change the story that they thought was being remade;

The name isn't inaccurate, just misleading. The "remake" in the title refers to the original events being altered/"remade", not that it's just a prettier rehash of the same game/events we've played already.

Frankly, I think it was quite clever of them. It certainly subverted expectations if nothing else, and I never gave much of a crap about the original FF7 anyway.
