Back in ARR bad DRG's often decorated the floor frequently because they would stand in AoE's while blood for blood was active. Back then it caused the DRG to take more damage while it was active. I main'ed DRG back then and the fact I wasn't one of these was probably why I regularly got comms on it. I still play DRG frequently and have also been told numerous times over the duration of the game since ARR that I have an unusual or odd rotation since I go with what works best for me rather than trying to copy someone else's video.I’ve been leveling a DRG and I’ve been noticing that out of all the jobs I’ve leveled or am leveling,DRG seems to get the least love from people in groups. But I personally am having a blast playing it, which I know is all that matters.
There have been two occasions, however, where after the dungeon, someone would give me a backhanded compliment. Like, “Thanks for not dying” or something like that. I also notice I rarely get any comms on my DRG. As opposed to the other DPS jobs where I always seem to get at least one.
For example (and this is completely non-scientific) I started a monk roughly three months after my DRG, and he’s a bit over 10 levels below the DRG, but has nearly double the comms.
I know they don’t really mean anything but that, coupled with some of the comments I’ve seen, made me wonder if DRGs have a bad rap or something.
loldrg was definitely around even in the XI days. Early in the game, DRG's 2-hr (a job-specific ability that could be used only once every 2 hours) was to summon its pet dragon. So if you died, or zoned, or did anything that made you lose your pet, you had to wait another 2 hours in order to resummon the thing.
In XIV, the others above have explained things well enough. Even SE poked fun at this several years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLbaki_Tc5s
It's just a meme. Granted, a meme with a grain of truth due to Jump leading to otherwise avoidable deaths either from jumping off a platform or the jump animation locking you into an AoE mess, but still a meme.I’ve been leveling a DRG and I’ve been noticing that out of all the jobs I’ve leveled or am leveling,DRG seems to get the least love from people in groups. Inside. Ever since 4.0 hit.

Just stick to Dragoon it's a very basic and forgiving melee job even if you fuck up, also they have the some of the best looking chest armors in the game.

I forgot about BfB. The combo of animation lock+low m.def+increased damage taken was a formula for death.Back in ARR bad DRG's often decorated the floor frequently because they would stand in AoE's while blood for blood was active. It's a FFXI meme that carried over to this game. For FFXI it's mostly that their Wyvern, a big part of their DPS, would get annihilated by things like bomb toss, etc, and Call Wyvern was a 2 hour at the time. So those poor dudes would be operating at 50% of their output forever.
If you know you're doing good and you see something like "lol DRG" or "floor tank" it's a jest.

It's been loldrg for nearly 20 years now thanks to XI.
It's holdover from there.
