some friends mostly I hang with on discords. A good chunk of them at first were with the changes, but something changed and they all went to whm and overly meme poor Astros. I like the look of them tho and so far I'm enjoying the class. I gotten a few " why that tho " in the game itself. I want to learn it better tho since I got it to 71.. so I'mma keep going.

Ignore them.
That's the best advice I can give you. It doesn't matter which job you picked and why, it doesn't affect their gaming experience.
AST is an incredibly strong healer, pairs well with both healers and has a nice toolkit to deal with all kinds of situations. Some people are understandly put off by the new card system and I know several controller players who don't enjoy AST because of the target switching but still enjoy the design and the aesthetics.
You have to work for your numbers, be they healing or dps. WHM is pretty straight forward in that regard while AST needs to plan and juggle more but there's really no reason why AST would be a poor choice. You may have to deal with some bias while leveling like tanks pulling tiny because you're an AST but if you know you can handle it and ask for larger pulls, most will gladly oblige. While playing healer, I keep running into sams who don't use Higabana, Hissatsu: Kaiten, Jinpu and even Shifu. And even one in the 69 dungeon that just spammed Oka and Mangetsu too far from the mobs. For the entire. Dungeon. Run. Someone please make the pain stop.

WoD run we are on cerebus orbs that drop aoe and shrink are out. Where is my tank standing in one of the orbs while tanking Cerebus with 2 stacks of the slash on him. I would have resuced him out of it but seeing as he was content to just STAND IN IT, something told me if I rescued him he would just ran back into it. I guess he enjoyed losing 50% of his hp with everyone of Cerebus auto attacks.

Don't listen to anyone who says you can't play a certain job. Play what you like and what you are the best at.

Agree with the "Play whatever you want" sentiment. Firm believer of letting people play whatever they like, I'd be a really big hypocrite if I didn't. I played MCH during Stormblood, and boy, did I get so much crap for it. I distinctly remember getting into a DF Susano EX group early on. We had no problems, we never wiped, we killed it and went about our day. A dog whistle dropped and I didn't win it. One of the other members decided he needed to hate on me for being MCH and said "MCH doesn't get doggos" before instantly leaving before I could say anything in response. Super brave of him. Joke was on him though, I passed that whistle cause I got it on my second Susano run. Guess MCH's did get doggos back in the day, and really fast at that!

Tell them to solo heal E8S whit WHM, when they say that solo heal that fight is impossible then tell em AST can solo heal it :P

I know the feeling, my best friend in the fc played mch during SB and always got flack for it from others, even though he was pretty good at it. Now he gets flack for liking AST!
Pretty much boils down to if you're enjoying the game, and if you're putting in the effort, I really don't care what you are playing. People have different reasons why they like stuff.

After about 4 months away I had the urge to return to the game. When I left I was burned out on healing. Did a few roulettes on SMN ease back in, sorry to those I was put with lol.

But after that I decided to try E5 to E8 as healer, the only role that met the ilvls. I feared that being behind I would make too many mistakes/not enough HP to survive a hit. Made a few mistakes but E5 and E8 were great, after about 3 wipes E7 clicked, E6 gave me the most issues. But it was nice to come back and get the clears on the first day.

Quick question for Garuda and Shiva's mechanics that need 2 to 4 in them are there any negatives if more then the required people stand in them?

Nope, aside from caveat of the soft negative that other mechanics may need to be handled at the same time so too many doing one of them can result in those others being failed.

Had a run some days back, helping a friend with roulettes. They're dpsing, I'm on WHM, and we're joined by a tank and a RDM inside of Sohm Ai normal. So most of the run is the usual big pull and burn, nothing out of the ordinary save for the fact that the RDM, a sprout, was standing in the fire puddles. I ignored it the first time, figured they were still learning or just slow to respond. Nope. If the dragon dropped a puddle on them then they'd stand in it and heal themselves.

So as we approach the end and battle the trio of dragons, right before the final boss, I catch the RDM standing in the puddle again and pull them out of it with Rescue. I've been trying to use it for it's intended purpose lately, you see, though my sister and I have been trying to figure out how to kill one another via the use of Rescue (like when she pulled me off the edge, at the final boss of Amaurot). I'm trying to make my job easier, because even if they heal it's like muscle memory for me to toss them some heals. Immediately I get..

RDM: Why though -in response to the rescue.-

Me: You were standing in the fire and taking damage.

RDM: I have heals.

I was completely dumbfounded by this response but kept it civil. I didn't bother telling them how to play, because you can be reported for just about anything nowadays. I concluded the exchange with an "ah, okay." Cowabunga it is. So we continue onto the last boss and during it I exclude the use of aoe heals and work on only keeping my friend and the tank alive. I'd been swayed by the statement of the RDM being able to heal themselves. We cut to burst damage eventually killing the RDM, and me continuing to dps/heal for the rest of the fight, resulting in them respawning outside while we down the boss with no problem. The final exchange.

Tank: lol you respawned?

RDM: the healer was only casting stone. ( not true, as I'd gone back to using my other abilities, now that the desired conclusion happened.)

Me: I thought you had heals.

So they call my skill into question briefly before I diffuse the situation and tell them to be safe out there, to which they tell me "gl buying" which meant we squashed our difference in playstyle or they were telling me good luck on buying accounts? Which I assume was due to them thinking I'd bought my all 80s account and was such a scrub healer that I couldn't figure out how to rez someone?

In the end the tank had given me their comm, but the greatest reward was how that final battle played out. Not looking for justification in my actions, and quite honestly fine with being seen as a poor sport or the antagonist. But I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy my own brand of warped justice prevailing.

I understand I could've made some helpful suggestions. However the player seemed too set in their ways, based off of our brief exchanges. Also the ToS keeps me at bay on even trying to offer advice, unless it's asked for.
