Once they fixed that it's all fine and dandy, and the new card system is a major improvement over what it used to be, even if it's still gimmicky at the end of the day. People might still be dunking on AST because of the intial SHB changes that have since been patched. Or they're raging on the permanent changes to the cards system in which case, I don't really understand. Before you were basically fishing for one legitimate card, the rest were trash and one was capable of messing up DPS. Unless it's just an argument for the simple meta "WHM does most damage". Which is great, if personal dps is your focus.
I liked the old card system more since i felt like it had more versatility. now you're punished for not having a role spread that suits plus the luck to match. so on top of luck all you're doing is fishing divination. because that requires party competence this leads the the class effectiveness being directly dependant on a party that knows what its doing and is in communication to get the absolute notable benefit. this plus the class's atrocious dps compared to the other two healers is mainly because you are fishing that dps lost to other party members. there's part of the reason i stopped playing AStro. i used to love playing it. now it just feels like a fairly boring class to play beyond the effects. doesn't mean i don't know how to use it. i leveled it to 80 with 0 wipes with 0 cooldown using tanks and sub par dps and various other things i had to fish out of my bum. did i enjoy it? no. it was fairly tedious and tiring to do and not very satisfying compared to when i first had it back pre shb.

i miss having to THINK and think WELL with the class with the card system. i rarely had a day the class's bad luck couldn't be turned good again. defence in a card. regen for co healer, tp could have been swapped for direct. the crit boosting knowing where to place stuff. that was the enjoyment. and i no longer have that enjoyment. awesome for people that do i just...can't really enjoy the class anymore. Did the changes really help the class? yea actually. I just stopped enjoying it when they took the thought out of it for me.

As for healers to go back to i went back to Scholar myself. but i always had a small liking for WHM. less now without aero 3, but i still like WHM.

When I reminded my alliance in frontline that tanks and melee have 30% damage reduction, and you should attack ranged/healers if possible, someone said you should attack tanks because they are the closest.

Yeah. Just attack whatever is closest to you. Give in to your base impulses. Sure.

But seriously: If tanks over-extend, you should definitely punish them. Melee should attack other tanks or melee if they can't approach the rest of their alliance yet. You definitely need to turn on melee DPS if they get on your team, since their burst is insane. I 100% agree.

But if a ranged DPS or healer is in range, you should attack them nine times out of ten. They are doing more damage than tanks and, while healers can be difficult, ranged/casters take like a fraction of the effort to kill. You should definitely direct your own ranged attacks towards their squishes and tank/melee should be punishing them if they over-extend. Even if they don't die, the fact they don't have 30% DR means they are much more taxing for enemy healers to sustain and more resources are lost. Please don't attack tanks. Those defensive CDs only have an effect if someone attacks them while it's on. Don't give them what they want.

When I first got it it was great, tanks were geared, DPS aoed and I was able to GRAVITY THEM TO HELL. But now... day 2? I'm popping all my OGCDs and my GCDS hoping the tank can press a CD so my CDs can get off cd because they are wet noodles. T.T
By level 65? If they're wearing Augmented Scaevan gear, it's not worth upgrading - the body armor is +2 STR/VIT, +3 DEF/MDEF, and +6 total offstats. Other gear will be similar or (most likely) worse. If they're level 76 or wearing lesser gear (unaugged scaevan or dungeon gear), then feel free to ask (nicely - sugar-coat it...ppl have egos) why they haven't upgraded yet, especially if it seems to be a problem.

Them not pushing CDs is a much larger problem, and is probably why they feel squishy.

Edit: Wrong level range...I'm thinking of level 74 stuff. The above still holds true, tho, at least partially - if they're wearing endgame HW gear at that point, they're probably fine. If not, they should look into getting some HQ stuff from the MB (at least body armor and pants). Edit2: The Defense boost is MUCH larger, tho, so there is that to consider. Again, tho, this comes down to tanks hitting their CDs more than it does them having "top" gear for the level.

Dancer is a physical hybrid melee/range class, not a true ranged class. I love it.

    ^ This.
Upgraded tome gear is the best you can have for the first 5 levels. All dungeon drops will be worse. So nothing wrong having lvl 60 gear at 65, UNLESS it's some low ilvl dungeon drop and not tome gear.
Even all the way of the 10 levels range tome gear is still not so bad, dungeon/crafted upgrades give a really minimal stat increase and if you level fast (and mostly with roulettes, which rarely ever give you something at level) it might not be worthy to spam a dungeon for drops or spend gil on crafted to upgrade. I don't know if it's vital for tanks though. In any case I imagine not using CDs might be the big thing in that case.

Been doing my weekly e8 kill for the token on DRG, it was pretty late at night and I hadn't played DRG in a while.
So I completely tunneled on my rotation and positionals. Cue redress and ice everywhere.
And being the idiot that I am of course I still focused on my positionals and slid from left to right to left to back to forward to left constantly zooming past everyone who had the mind to stand still.

The others were standing there, probably thinking something along the lines of:
"the fuck is that idiot drg doing?"
"lol he's so gonna slide off the platform"
    "loldrg"
    "floortank inc"

At least I didn't kill myself by sliding off the platform.

Had an experience yesterday that made me smile.

Ended up getting Weeping City in alliance roulette. Our tank was a sprout who was a first timer. They let the group know and away we went.

The whole instance, they kept remarking in chat how cool the scenery and the fights were.

And they ended up doing great, they ended up making few mistakes. I tried to type out pointers for them as each fight started to hopefully help them out.

In the end, I ended up giving them my commendation because I really appreciated their enthusiasm and how well they did.

Who is even yelling at you for picking that class? Never seen anyone yell for picking a class, unless you were doing some savage pugs or something I GUESS, and even then. Most people shouldn't care. Half the time I don't even notice what class the healers are. I don't even read people's names. As long the healer gets the job done it shouldn't matter. All of them are capable.

Did Susano and Shisui both for the first time yesterday. Gave my usual spiel about hey, this is my first my time in her, please let me know if there’s anything special I need to do.

Susano was told he does a ton of damage, so keep the tanks health up. Stay behind him because he cleaves. Fight was super fun and hectic and I really enjoyed watching that play out.

Shisui they told me nothing and there were two of us running it first time. I picked up on the old drone boxes when I saw the other two players immediately turn and run for them the first time so I didn’t get caught by that the first time. Not sure exactly what the tell was for that so didn’t avoid it every time. No idea the correct response to the sharks and their tracking AoE is in the last fight. No one died though, so hey.

I'm assuming for the first bit, you mean the the second boss. She will cast a room-wide charm on the entire party, forcing them to run to the center of the room. You avoid it by running into one of those boxes before she finishes casting, as being really old makes you immune to her charm. You can also run into the box after being charmed so long as you positioned yourself for it, and two people can use the same box so long as they touch it at the same time. If one is too late, the other won't get the effect and will be charmed by the boss instead.

As for the sharks and their tracking/line aoe, you just kill them before they finish casting it. The bigger shark takes longer to kill than the smaller ones, but that's it afaik.

some friends mostly I hang with on discords. A good chunk of them at first were with the changes, but something changed and they all went to whm and overly meme poor Astros. I like the look of them tho and so far I'm enjoying the class. I gotten a few " why that tho " in the game itself. I want to learn it better tho since I got it to 71.. so I'mma keep going.
