I’m very sorry for your loss, OP. It really sucks that had to happen because of how SE’s housing system works and honestly it’s high time we at least get an instanced housing option. I hope you eventually manage to nab a good replacement regardless!

Sucks you lost yoru house but maybe Im not fully understanding the issue. Were you offline the full 45 days? If thats the case, then yeah, feels bad man, but theres not much to do about that. However if youve logged in a few times for one reason or another during those 45 days, then thats on you. Look, Ive had my house now since when Shirogane housing opened up. During that time, Ive been in my house about every day for one thing or another. I do not understand how people can own a house and not step into it once during a 45 day period. Even once a week is more than enough yet people struggle to do this, which then brings up the question of why people even own housing if they dont even use it.
If you had the opportunity to log in during a 45 day period and didnt go into your house, it sucks but thats on you. Its your responsibility to go into your residence to keep that timer rolling. The bar here honestly isnt that high. As for the "Im a paying sub!" argument, as someone else stated - so are many other people. And the fact you want to keep your house means keeping your sub on is an incentive. They want people to keep their subs rolling if they want to keep things like housing. Thats the way it works. If you plan on taking extended time from the game, either pay the sub at the minimum level just so you can log in to keep your house maintained or work something out with friends. I know the ToS and the risks implied, but Im also a realist and know people do favors for other people.
So yeah, It does suck having your house get demoed, but the rules have been pretty consistent for years now regarding housing. This isnt anything new.
Why is this topic still hot? If you can't play the game because of real life you lose your house and what is there to discuss?
My reply is not for OP since i have no intention to salt the wound.
My target audience is to the people that take this opportunity and pushing for so called "instanced" housing
You already have an instanced housing but you are just refuse to admit it.
Apartment is player owned and outside of 45 days restriction.
It will always be there.
If you want a house just of the giggle and do not enter house within 45 days, what is the point to come to the forum to complains?
It is your own responsibility to maintain your own property
Please do not use RL issue as an excuse because it is really not hard to access the game in 2020
I actually just kind of had this happen to me.
I finally bought a house last patch, but then I took a break and came back the day after I lost it XD
After that I decided that I should just stick to apartments since I randomly leave for 1-2 months every patch or two. Maybe I'll think about going after a house again after my life settles back down irl.
After playing for 5-6 years nonstop GOD FORBID I want to take a break for a couple of months or have something come up in real life. I'm completely ABSOLUTELY underserving of that house I maintained for such a long time!!!!45 days is a LONG time not to log in. If you can't find time to do it, well, then it obvious it is not THAT important to you.
Seriously, with the advent of laptops and easy internet access around most places in the world, surely one can make the time to logon and update their house if they really care about it. And if you play on ps4, well, I guess one would have to 'double dip' to be able to play the game on their laptop (if they have one) to keep the house. After all, it's ONLY money, it's your HOUSE that you put soooo much time in!
I honestly wonder what people are doing to keep them from total game access though for such a long time. Like I said, if one is willing to spend the money, one can keep their house. How much it is TRULY worth to you?

Then give up your house and take a break. It's really that easy, I've done it twice in 5 years. You can get a new house when your interest in the game peaks again because someone else's house will get demolished.
Houses are for fcs and players who play at least every 45 days and more people get to enjoy the feature this way. I don't know how someone who isn't even subscribed to the game can think they should be allowed to reserve a limited game resource and the content it provides. Apartments are better suited for temporary subscribers.

That's not the point. Many players have realized housing is broken even since its release.
Wards make sense for FC housing but individul ownership turn wards to ghost town. I give up to get housing when I realized that. Individuals need instancied housing to make wards FC-only and more lively. Are you unable to understand that? People who want so bad wards for their mansion are totally blind about the really : no one praise them for their mansion, nobody care, nobody visit a useless ghost town. And apartements are far too limited to be interesting.
My first reaction in ARR when housing was released was little house are really too little to make sense. There's no way to show some kind of creativity in such a little place. With two mansions I thought it was too short. That's why I'm advocating for instancied housing for individual rather than wards. When you see what Wildstar was offering, or BDO, you fast understand what I mean. There's not way to be really creative appart to buy full wards as few players did.

I've taken long-ish breaks a few times, but I've put in the five minutes once per month to keep my house active. If you're in a situation where you're completely unable to log into the game for 45 days, then you probably have bigger problems than losing your virtual house.
It's really not as simple as that, not for everyone anyway. I mean for me I'd lose a TON of money if I just gave up my house right now - I'd have to sell or trash a huge amount of stuff on my retainers and in my house to even fit all of my furniture anywhere, and a lot of it is cash shop or crafted (hence lot of money), and I just flat don't have anywhere to put it. Plus I'm pretty sure the 20 mil or so I spent on the house isn't something I get back if I demolish is it? Could be wrong on that but if not then like... I've had this house for like a year and a half and I don't even have 20 mil again yet. I literally couldn't afford to buy the house I live in now rn <<Then give up your house and take a break. It's really that easy, I've done it twice in 5 years. You can get a new house when your interest in the game peaks again because someone else's house will get demolished.

At any rate I'd really love if they made it LESS of a limited resource. Someone suggested condos in another thread, or apartments that are bigger or have instanced balconies, or heck condos with greenhouses in the back or on the roof idk, something that lets more people do the housing thing without having to ration houses with sub incentives and wonky timers
