Why not just have larger apartments?

Seems simple enough, make more apartment buildings with different sized instanced homes.

Penthouses and deluxe condos for alot more gilt, and even make full on 3 story open concept condos.

Lots of decorating possibilities, and you could make it so they have views across the ward theh are in, simulated picture, but still.

A good idea, can help with the whole issue with the house buying. There's already enough problems going on with housing as it is.

About 2 years ago, they mentioned adding size options for apartments was one of the things they were considering but have said nothing since on the subject.

Certainly, it would help reduce demand for houses since many players are looking for more space to decorate and not garden access.

It'd also provide another much needed gil sink into the game by making people pay to upgrade their apartments or to buy the larger variant outright.

Would it need a 1 per account restriction like houses or allow any alts to have apartments/condos? Also maybe make a "deck/patio" for out door furnishings go go out to on the larger tiers.

You already can only have 1 per character, and tbh that's fine, I see no need to restrict it 1 to account as apartments are instanced. Not only are they instanced, but they are abundant, and I'm going to guess...easier to add more than house plots are.
I remember they mentioned this some few years ago when SB housing first came out, and I'M ON BOARD!!!! I'm still hoping they add it? It's a great idea and will take pressure off the current housing system.
If a normal Apartment costs 500k Make a Medium at least ...1million a large... 2million? I don't know or care, but PLEASE SE, PLEASE. As an added bonus, apartments definitely aren't tied to your sub so... you won't lose it if you have to suddenly leave.
I'm sure many more plots would open up too...

I read somewhere that Yoshi stated that's the plan in future updates- larger apartments/ larger FC rooms or something along those lines

I like this design, but for an upgraded apartment. The second floor could be a mezzanine floor so no more need to install lofts and float non table top furniture.

Also, the mezzanine floor will serve as access to the instanced balcony/garden, having a door mechanic same as the door to additional rooms of an fc house.

But with a better door design kinda like this one.

Upgrade one: top floor.
Upgrade two: outside balcony garden area.
Optional upgrade: second floor indoor balcony, i.e. turn the top floor into a mezz floor.

I hope SE gives this a chance. Minus the viewable/interactable outdoors area of a plotted house, if the indoor novelty, aesthetics and functionality of apartments are greatly improved, apartments will be a very viable starter or i daresay permanent housing system for players. Given that housing districts and wards are limited bordering to rare, and not so easily increased.
